My LO is having a birthday soon and figured she's going to get a bunch of toys and clothes... With that being said I wanted to get her a play kitchen with pretend food and some can be for christmas since so close.. Any recommendations on good quality kitchens???

Re: Play kitchen

  • We're going with a wooden kitchen for Christmas this year as well. I believe we put the M&D kitchen, pots/pans, and food on the Amazon Wishlist. Make sure you read the reviews before picking one out, that is what made us go with the M&D.

  • We just bought, assembled and gave our DD the KidKraft corner kitchen.   I am very happy with it. We have 2 kids so we wanted something bigger that they can use at the same time.  My husband is incredibly picky about the quality of things and he loves it.  I also highly recommend the Melissa and Doug cutting food.  It's really cool and I think it helps develop fine motor skills.

  • I'm scoured Amazon and found a few that I just LOVE.  I have my sights set on the Melissa and Doug one.  It is under $100 and wood.  Kid Kraft has some adorable choices but, for me, the value isn't there with >$100 price tag.  Ikea has a version but I think it was $70...so not the bargain that would sway me compared to M&D quality.
  • We just got the kidcraft uptown espresso kitchen for DD and it's fantastic quality, also big enough that we won't have to buy a second one (she's 2 and has to stand on her tiptoes to open the microwave).  The only thing about it is that it takes FOR-EVER to assemble.  I wouldn't recommend it unless you have someone in your family who's good with putting furniture together.  I happen to like it and have done it a ton, so it was no problem, but it still took me half a day (watching two little ones).

Yea my husband and I did it after the kids went to bed in about 2.5 to 3 hours but we are rather handy.  Highly recommend laying out all pieces in numeric order before you start so you know where everything is as you go.  The 15 mins we spent prepping was very worthwhile when we got started.

  • We have the red retro KidKraft one and love it!  We also have the metal KidKraft pots and pans.  They are nice but when she bangs them together it gets pretty annoying, I would probably go with wood if I had it to do over again.

We have this one too. It's a great kitchen. I *think* we got it from Costco last year during Christmas time. DD1 and DD2 both love it. DD2 has been playing with it ever since she could crawl.
