Babies: 6 - 9 Months

My family is too much

You may remember my earlier post about "pneumonia" a while ago. Well, we had our family dinner last night and while that particular family no longer has it, they still had visible colds.

DS did not nap well yesterday so from the getgo i knew that he was not going to have a good time. Within seconds of arriving, 3 cameras were in his face with flashes and one of the sick kids was blowing raspberries in his face. He started crying and because I'm incredibly sleep deprived, my patience is low with ppl who don't respect boundaries. I picked him up and said to just back off.

The entire night I had to remind these other kids not to touch DS's hands or put their hands in his mouth because apparently my cousin doesn't care about teaching his kids about spreading germs.

Everyone is in his face, hands everywhere, being passed around all the while visibly fussy and upset. We brought an exersaucer for him to play with so he wouldn't have to be held all night. But of course the other kids were just climbing all over it.

Then the comments start about how much he's teething (his excessive drooling) and how we need to change his clothes (I had a drool bib on him and I did bring extra clothes for that reason). Then they say he must be hot (he wasn't) and take him outside WITH NO JACKET ( its cool and fall here). Then my grandma starts banging on a dish "to test his hearing".. WTF!!

My H and I finally just took him upstairs and hung out for a bit to chill out and DS had a little nap.

The last straw....My H told my aunt not to take off DS's socks off and what does she do? Gives a smug smile and removed one. He grabbed DS and we left. As DS is now crying again at the door my aunt decides now she wants more photos?? I said no and just kept on walking

The disrespect and lack of space is just too much. I'm absolutely dreading Christmas now. There is no rationalizing with these ppl without being met with "I've had kids, I know more than you."

Ughhhhhhhh!!!

Re: My family is too much

  • Wow. I don't think I would've been able to hold my tongue in that situation. I don't understand what it is about babies that makes people think they're allowed to act like total idiots. Sorry you had to deal with that!
