What did your LO do in between contractions?

Sorry if this has been covered and I missed it ...

For those with outside babies, what did your LO do in between contractions in early labor? Was this this same or different to their reaction to BH?

Whenever I've had Braxton Hicks, the baby tends to wiggle a bit afterwards. Almost like he was shaking it off. Today I've had .... something ... going on all day. Deft not BH but not painful enough for me to confidently call them contractions. Almost like very strong period cramps but not consistent . Sometimes just a few mins apart. Sometimes an hour. Baby has little/no reaction.

So ... tell me, what'd your LO do?

  • I think this means you may be going into labor, or not. :O)  Better check for vagina boogers.

I actually laughed out loud. *shudder* That thread was nasty and hilarious at the same time

FTM here, and I have not had contractions yet, but I was also curious if the babies still moved around a bit inbetween them, or if they have a "rest" period. I just thought it might be reassuring to feel them inbetween, so I know he's still doing ok. Lol I know, I'm nuts.

That's kinda my thinking too ... feeling him wiggle is always comforting.

  • During early labor Nora moved a lot between contractions, but as they got more consistent she stopped moving as much. Either that or I just couldn't notice it anymore because I was in so much pain. :P

  • When I was induced with my first baby, he didn't move during labor. With this baby (2nd), I went into labor on my own and she moved all the way until I started pushing. Her movements made labor much more painful and it was hard to trace her heartbeat because she kept rotating around. He eventually settled when she came down the birth canal.

Baby's heart rate is monitored the entire time. It is actually pretty loud, so you always know he or she is doing ok with all the squeezing.

  • With my DS#1 I had little to no movement and that is what prompted me to call the doc not the cramping/contractions itself.

  • LO acted normal completely. He was moving around during times he normally does and staying still during his normal times. Heartbeat was fine and consistent nothing seemed different at all.
  • I never felt her moving, but I was focusing on breathing and in pain, so I never really paid attention. The heart rate monitor said she was fine though.

  • I was too focused in breathing through the contractions to focus on what DD2 was doing so my vote is she just hung out and rested.

  • My little wiggled all the way out. Every group of medical people who has dealt with him today, nurses who delivered him, both NICU's, etc., has called him a wild man haha! So I think we'll stick with that for his nickname

  • At the hospital she was going crazy even though I was having contractions and had an epidural. She kept kicking the monitor and moving away from it so they kept having to adjust it to keep track of her.

  • I read in one of my books that decreased movement is actually a sign of labor (perhaps from pelvic engagement and moving into a smaller space - pelvis as opposed to abdomen).
Since I read this AFTER having started labor with DD1 and experiencing it, which freaked me out a bit, I will say it is not my favorite sign of labor.
