I quit church

edited October 2013 in July 2012 Moms
Getting to and from church (the one where my husband works) every Sunday is too hard!

45 minutes to get there by subway, either carrying in the Ergo (which is beginning to hurt since LO probably is almost 30 lbs) OR taking the stroller (tried for the first time this morning, he screamed for most of the subway ride, and it was hard carrying him and the stroller)
1 hour trying to keep him from ripping pages out of the hymnals and throwing offering envelopes on the floor
45 minutes to get home with a baby desperate for a nap OR I pay $22 for a cab and he falls asleep on my lap

I hearby quit church.  I'll start going again once all my children are big enough to carry themselves.  Thank you.  ::drops mic::

Re: I quit church

  • Can't say I blame you. If your husband didn't work for the church, I'd say find something closer... Maybe find a closer one anyway... Good luck!

  • I'm very tempted.  I would really like to find a place with a nursery so LO can have a little play time and I can have a little time to myself!  None of the Lutheran churches nearby offer that, so I'd have to venture into enemy (jk jk) territory.  Just thinking about it exhausts me!

  • I quit church a long time ago for basically the same reasons. That and the people at my church were "the judgemental christians"..if you kwim.   Like Denise said God will understand as long as you pray he will listen he doesn't care where you talk to him as long as you do

That sounds horrible. Since you have nothing else going on, could you volunteer to start up a nursery program there?
Not a chance in hell for a thousand reasons:  My husband isn't working there for much longer, I hate his boss, I don't think there are many people who are interested in dropping off their kids (most people with babies live very close), it'd be impossible to get volunteers, it doesn't solve my problem, they don't have the space....

  • I should probs save this for FC, but we haven't gone since Emma was born... and our church has a nursery.

We haven't either, except holidays. Our church has a nursery but its not equipped for them to take naps and if course, church is during nap time.

  • Wow! I think I would do the same. Good thing you can just have your H do a nice family sermon when he gets home. :)

  • That sounds like such a PITA, I don't know who would blame you for skipping. Maybe you and LO can have a private bible study at home during church time. You're brave for even attempting church with a toddler this age. I can't get LO to sit still unless she's asleep or eating.

Thanks for the support, ladies.  DH must have sensed that I had a bad morning because when he came home around 2, he brought me frozen yogurt, woohoo!  I told him it was just getting too hard to schlep LO to church and he understood; he noted that pretty much every other family with a kid that age had stopped coming regularly, lol.  He encouraged me to look into churches in the neighborhood and I think I found one that I will check out!  Website says it has a nursery :D

cwm11985, why is church always during naptime???  Churches need to have a 7:30am service for parents of toddlers =))
