Congested baby? What would you recommend?

I've heard that babies born from a c-section tend to have more congestion. Did you experience this? Also, I've heard that the Rock n' Play is a must for c-section babies as they are slightly at an incline. I fear that the RnP is so low to the ground that it will be difficult to reach for the baby from bed at night. I would love to hear about your experiences and any suggestions you might have!

Thanks!

Re: Congested baby? What would you recommend?

  • My c section babies sneezed a lot and the nurses said it was because they did not get squeezed on the way out. The rock n play did not exists yet so they didn't have one. I think most congestion resolved by the time we left the hospital. Both were in a regular bassinet at home the first few weeks.

  • My DS was slightly congested for a day in the hospital but he was fine. We don't have a RNP and he has slept in his crib since the first day home from the hospital.
  • My LO was congested and snorting like a little piggie for the first 48 hrs but it went away. She's congested again at 3 weeks but I think it's unrelated. I have a rnp though not used for sleeping just for napping when I'm on the living room level and very helpful for that so I don't has to bend as much.

  • I think it depends on the baby and c/s has little to do with it. Both of mine were c/s. DS even had a collapsed lung at birth so I expected breathing issues with him but never had any once we left NICU. DD also never had congestion or loud breathing. We had a bassinet so no idea about the RNP.

  • My baby wasn't congested. I have a pack n play with a bassinet and she slept in with no problems. However, she did and still does have a tendency to sneeze a lot. She is now 8 months.
