What did you do for your DS's 4th or 5th birthday?

Hi Ladies -
DS's birthday is on Jan 1, and I'm already starting to think of ideas for places/parties. The last two years we did a typical bouncy place and a local children's museum. Any neat ideas that you've tried for your DS's birthday? I'm thinking we'll have about 25 kids or so.
Thanks!

We have summer bday so it was at a local park.  We have been invited to parties at monkey joe's, sports places that do sports/soccer type activities, an indoor playspace w/ a ton of playground type equipment & trampolines, a tae kwon do place, a pirate themed party at someone's house w/ some different activities...
eta how could I forget Gymboree I think we have been to three there!

  • I might look into doing a party at DD's gymnastic school.  I guess it would be similar to any sort of Little Gym/ Gymboree type of party.  It seems pretty reasonable.  This is her 1st year in preschool so it will be the 1st year she'll have friends to invite, I'll see what types of parties we get invited to before I decide if I'll even do one.
  • We did a gymnastics studio. It was a big hit. The kids just had free time for an hour and played on the equipment, and then we did light snacks and cupcakes.

  • We went to my nephew's 5th party at a gym. The kids all had a blast and they ranged in age from 9-infants. I did DD's 3rd at the gym where she does gymnastics. It was cheap, easy, and the kids all had fun.

  • We did a party at a chucky cheese type place. They had lots of games, some rides, a huge climbing thing. It was fun.

  • For DS 4th birthday we had an art party.  He loves doing crafts though! I just did it at a park (in Sept), but if DD wants an art party someday it will have to be indoors.  So it will be at our home or a local pottery place.

  • DS is turning 5 tomorrow (cue mommy sniffle). We are having a bowling party for about a dozen or so kids on Saturday. Last year we did a bouncy place. The bowling party is a a bit cheaper and glad bc looks like we are getting 100% yes responses which has never happened.

  • We've been to the science museum here in Chicago for a bday party...a back yard party...chuck e cheese....bowling...and swim party.

DS takes swim twice a week at his swim school and we are going to have his 5th birthday party there.

  • We planned a park party (it's a really cute park with a whole toy size play "town") got rained out & had to move it to the house. We ended up doing a cupcake decorating party. It was a big hit, we had little stations set up & the kids were in heaven! After that I improvised on some games & called it a day!
