Shoes

I know this sounds silly, but I am wondering how many pairs of shoes your LO owns. LO has finally started to wear shoes without throwing a fit. She moves into the toddler room at daycare tomorrow, so she will start wearing shoes there too. Right now, we only own one pair. I was thinking of getting her a second pair now that she's wearing them more. DH says she doesn't need a second pair, but that could just be him being frugal! We have some birthday money left over that could be used to buy her a pair. How many would you even consider necessary?

Re: Shoes

  • We have one pair that dd wears daily plus a more dressy pair and some rain boots. She doesn't walk yet FTR.

Dd has one pair that fit well right now. She is so close to the next size that whe she transitions she will have: 1 pair dress shoes, 1 pair of boots, 1 pair sneakers,1 pair brown shoes. I will also likely be getting her sandals and white shoes in that size when we go on a warm vacation this winter.

I should add that DD is walking pretty much everywhere at this point. When she walked less we had fewer pairs, I also learned that it is worth the $ to buy better shoes after I had two cheep pairs fall apart on me.

We have 15 pairs of hand-me-down shoes, and not one of them fits Eddie's fat little feet. He has yet to wear shoes. The day is fast approaching, though. Minnesota winters aren't the warmest. Any suggestions for fat-footed shoes, anyone?

Let me first say that I personally have a shoe problem. LO has 12ish pairs. 2 pairs are hand me downs.
ETA: she walks everywhere and rarely wants to be carried when we leave the house.

  • He owns one pair currently. We're going to probably buy a second pair so we can leave the other ones at school. His classroom is no shoes so when we get there, he doesn't need his shoes on. He just needs to have them in his cubby for outside time. It seems silly that we are bringing them back and forth all the time because I want the option of taking him to walk around or go to the park.

  • one pair of sneakers.  When she starts to actually walk more...as in walk out to the car, walk into the store with me, I will buy more then one pair.  Right now I just don't see the need for more.

  • L owns one pair of shoes. I have a mega shoe problem so I am trying to be realistic. I have been looking for a pair of boots for once it gets cold, but she has fat feet and big legs so nothing is fitting very well. Also, there are very few brands that are wide enough for both of those issues.

FTR, her one pair are silver mary janes, so they can be dressed up or worn with jeans.

Same here. I recently bought some gold Mary Janes, but I'm debating if I should return them. She doesn't wear shoes most of the day at daycare, so I don't think she needs any more. I will be getting her some winter boots though.

  • Thanks for a general idea ladies! LO currently owns a blue/pink pair from Stride Rite.  They will not go with every outfit though, which is why I was leaning on buying her another pair that she can wear when the blue pair does not match.  DH says I am being silly.  I'm not a shoe gal myself.  I just have the bare minimum.  I want to get her a pair of Tom's to wear in the spring, but I have plenty of time for that.  A nice pair of boots is a great idea as a Christmas gift!

  • Jasper has fat feet, too, and I agree with PPs about See Kai Run. We also have a pair of sneakers from Carters that work for him, too. They have bungees (?) instead of laces, so it's easy to get his feet in them.

Stride Rite has shoes that come in wide also...
  • We have a size 4.5W for LO. She has wide feet and they fit rather nicely! Definitely check out Stride Rite.

I am that crazy shoe lady who has to have shoes to go with each outfit, so probably to many, haha.  She has a pair of casual white, dressy white, casual light pink, casual bright pink, dressy light pink, casual black, casual silver and purple, brown boots, mulit-colored stripped casual and a pair that has VW bettles on them (because H loves VWs).  So 10 pairs that currently fit and she wears regularly.

ETA: She walks a ton in public, so she now always has shoes on when we leave the house.

@MississippiCatfish - I have a pair of mary janes from See Kai Run that are wide and also a pair of Livie & Luca soft soles that are wide. In fact, I think I might have to sell both because DD has narrow feet :(  These are cute though and on sale:

Sometimes you can find good deals on ebay too.

Thanks! I'm not sure if wide will help because his feet are fat from the sole to the top, if that makes any sense. They're fat the tall way? Even robeez haven't worked so far, but I'm gonna have to squeeze him into something pretty soon!

I have a terrible shoe obsession and it is beginning to run over to DD. She currently has 14 pairs of shoes in her current size and a few waiting for her to grow into them. Most of them are Stride Rite and Nike w/ a few Sperry Topsiders and See Kai Run thrown in.

I went with Stride Rite for all their shoes. DS has an XW foot, so we're limited in brands with him. I go overboard on my twin fairness OCD, so DD gets to wear Stride Rite too. It's a great brand though and really tailored to new walkers. See Kai Run has adorable Mary Jane styles. I love the look of their shoes. These are the two shoes I have for DD right now.

The shoe on the right is one I'm eyeing right now. We have the same style, but in the blue/pink color. It won't go with all of her outfits. I think this one will go with mostly everything.

We have a few pairs of See Kai Run, a few pairs of Robeez, one pair of StrideRite, the boots are Uggs and then a few random pairs that we bought at Babies R Us in the clearance section.  The nice pink and nice white ones are Mary Janes that were a random brand, and we have these casual black Mary Janes that are See Kai Run https://www.amazon.com/See-Kai-Run-Taryn-Toddler/dp/B00793B9HY/ref=sr_1_7?s=shoes&ie=UTF8&qid=1381706638&sr=1-7&keywords=black+see+kai+run

I love the Stride Rites and See Kai Runs best, they are awesome.  I bought both pairs of See Kai Run and all of our Robeez on Zulily, they have great deals!  I bought the Stride Rites from Zappos.

  • I have bought a couple of see kai run on the fb group. All of them have been in brand new condition.

  • Ok...I guess what I lack in pjs I have made up for in shoes. We currently have 4 pair of sneakers, one pair of dressy white shoes, one pair of black dress shoes, a pair of brown casual shoes, one pair of leopard pair shoes, 2 pairs of pink casual shoes, one pair of purple casual shoes and 2 pairs of boots. Maybe even more that I can't remember. She is also walking everywhere so they all get plenty of use.
  • 3 pairs. Two are Stride Rite, one pair of baby Vans.
  • I lied. She also has a pair of white sandals that were gifted to us.
  • 3 that she wears regularly- 2 maryjane & 1 sneakers

She also has 4 pairs of boots that she got for her birthday, but they're a little big still. They should fit by winter.

  • I'm right in the middle on this one. Probably 6 pair she can wear now. She needed closed toes for daycare when started this fall). Keds white Mary Janes, brown Mary Janes, black Mary Janes with a bow, sneakers (which have gotten much less wear than I would've guessed, some leopard print Target ones and some pink Stride Rite shoes. I went with Stride Rite based on the recos from this board, and am so glad I did. We've been very happy with them.

  • 1 pair until her feet stop growing so fast. She doesn't match most days :)

First pair was livie and luca, loved them. Just ordered see Kai run Brook in yellow. Hope they are as nice!

Perhaps a pair of boots for winter though. :-p

  • 6 new in his current size and 4 hand me down in her current size. He has extra hand me down in bigger sizes as well since his brother had a ton of shoes. I have a baby shoe addiction and my DH has a sneaker addiction.
  • DD has 2 "good" pair of shoes, both from Stride Rite. One is a sneaker and the other is a "dressier" mary jane.  I have bought a pair of pink tie-dye Vans for her, but they won't fit for a while :(  Then she has a few pair of hand me downs, boots, etc. So far she has really only worn the Stride Rite shoes.

  • I'm embarrassed by how many shoes N has.
She has a pink pair, a pair of brown and pink stride rite tennis shoes, a black canvas pair of mary jane's and some sweater boots.  I also just bought her a pair of converse on ebay.  I keep finding such great deals on ebay...I got NIB Stride Rites for only $7 and the converse that I got yesterday were NWT and I got them for $3.84.

Similarly her shoes that she's outgrown I'm putting up on ebay this week.  She has a pair of Keen's and a pair of Stride Rites that she used for around 2 months but are in very good condition I figured I could get some $$ for.

  • None. They're not walking yet and it's still quite warm here so we've just been using socks. I'm planning to get some robeez soon as the weather begins cooling.
  • She has a pair of Toms that don't stay, a pair of Pedipeds that are her everyday shoes and a pair of gold dress shoes that I had to buy her to wear to a wedding in September and I am reusing them for her Halloween costume and her Thanksgiving outfit (if they still fit end of November).

She has 2 pair of Robeez also but hardly wears those anymore.

Basically, if we go out it's Pedipeds 75% of the time and Toms 25% of the time.  I wish the Toms stayed on better.

  • We don't have any. I'm the weird one that knows it is easier to walk without them. I made it to 18 months with ds and in my effort to keep things fair, am aiming for that again. In all fairness though, we live in so cal, so it isn't that hard to keep her feet warm.
