Question for 2IF Mamas...

When & how did you tell your older child/children that a baby was coming? (How many weeks were you?)

DH bought DD a really cute book about becoming a big sister. It talks about why babies cry, why they eat different food, why they can't play like she does, etc. We are so excited to give it to her since we are *finally* able to give her what she's been asking for and were planning on doing a special day together tomorrow and giving her the book. Is it too early? According to my ob appointment, I'm 11 weeks and 2 days tomorrow. I'm starting to get cold feet thinking that we are jinxing it.  Advice??

7/2013 - IUI #1: 50 units Follistim +  Ovidrel  = BFN
8/2013 - IUI #2: 50 units Follistim +  Ovidrel  = BFP! Beta #1 (12 dpiui) 8/21: 45  Beta #2 (16 dpiui) 8/26: 301 Beta #3 (21 dpiui) 8/30: 1,929. 1st Ultrasound 9/4 - One perfect sac. 2nd Ultrasound 9/13 - Heartbeat at 124 bpm! Anniversary

    I waited until I was past first tri testing and had a good nt scan. I had two losses and wanted to wait until things looked good.

    TTC #3 (#1 for DH) since September 2011. DX: Unexplained infertility with possible cervical factor. May 2012 did clomid with IUI - BFN August 2012 IUI #2 w/ follistim/letrozole - BFN September 2012 IUI #3 w/ follistim/letrozole - BFN October 2012 IUI #4 w/ follistim/letrozole - BFN November/December 2012 IVF/ICSI #1 Retrieved 12 eggs, 8 fertilized. Transferred 1 beautiful embryo and 5 made it to freeze. Got my BFP! January 2013 u/s showed empty gestational sac. FET cycle April 2013.  Transferred 2 5 day embryos.  BFP!!!!!  2 heartbeats!!!!  EDD:  12/27/13

    We told DD this week. However she is just turning 3 and really doesn't understand yet.

    We told DS after our NT scan. He had been telling me for at least 2 weeks before that I had a baby in my tummy because my tummy was getting big! We just sat him down and told him (DH took a video of his reaction though).
    Me: 33 DH: 36 Unexplained IF
    First pregnancy - DS 01-Apr-09;
    3rd cycle Clomid/IUI after 2 years TTC
    TTC #2 since ~June 2010
    IUI #1 & 2 - Clomid/IUI - BFN
    IUI #3 &4 - Gonal-F/Ovidrel and IUI -- BFN
    IUI #5 - Gonal-F/Ovidrel and IUI -- BFP!!
    EDD: March 22, 2013
    It's triplets!!

    Our DD new pretty much immediately, however we had a unique situation. It seems like every time we needed to go to our RE it was a Sunday at 7:00 in the morning and we are an hour away from their office so she had to come with us as we have no family in town. She is 5 so she has been very involved from the beginning and we explained to her that he doctor had to help mommy and daddy so we could have another baby (since she has been asking for a sibling for along time) She is very excited and sweet and thankfully everything has gone smoothly. I do have a big sister book I plan on giving her with a "big sister" kit (idea from pinterest) once baby arrives

    5/07 - DD conceived naturally cycle #1

    8/09 - Started TTC #2
    11/10 - BFP!
    12/10 - MC (Chemical Pregnancy)
    2/11 - IUI #1 with clomid & trigger = BFN
    5/11- Switched to a Fertility Specialist, Dx with low progesterone and annovulatory, several rounds of
             clomid = BFN's
    4/12 - Exploratory Lap, Dx Stage III endo
    5/12 - 7/12 - Lupron injections to suppress AF and reduce scar tissue
    8/12 - Surgery to remove tissue, uterus and tubes clear!
    9/12-12/12 - More BFN's!
    1/13 - Referred to an RE
    2/13 - IUI #1 with injects and new RE = BFN
    3/13 - 4/13 - Break due to cysts
    5/13 - IUI #2 with injects (125ml bravelle + trigger) = BFP!!!
    EDD - 1/23/14

    We told DS early, so he's known for a while. We would have waited longer but we were having dinner with friends and had a feeling they would figure it out and talk about it in front if him if I didn't have a glass of wine at dinner. We didn't want DS to find out like that! Plus, he's older and we wanted to include him from the start. At first we told him we might be having a baby, since we've had multiple losses, but now we're talking about it as more of a reality.

    Me: 42. DH: 46.

    1st Pregnancy: MC, 11/19/00.

    2nd Pregnancy: DS born 04/10/06.

    3rd Pregnancy: CP, 03/11.

    4th Pregnancy: MMC, D&C 11/30/11, Genetic testing revealed Trisomy 4.

    5th Pregnancy: Ectopic, 2 doses of Methotrexate unsuccessful, surgery 4/10/12, right tube removed.

    Tried Letrozole January 2013-July 2013 (including 2 IUIs), all BFN.  After 2 1/2 years of trying for child #2, decided to "give up" after July cycle, based on AMA.

    August 16, 2013:  BFP our first month of "not trying!"  Still in shock.  Beta #1 (14dpo): 183.  Beta #2 (17dpo):  611.  Ultrasound 8/30/13: baby measured 6 weeks, 1 day, heart rate of 118 bpm! 
    Ultrasound 9/13/13:  8 weeks, heart rate of 176!
    Baby is due 4/26/14

    We waited till after the NT scan and started talking about a baby here and there! then after the a/s and we knew the sex and had a name picked out. We would talk about "Jesse in mommys belly, his little feet, how he would have a face when he came outside" we read some of the big brother book that my sis in law handed down to us and even created a silly song that DS#1 still requests. It's about mommy loves Owen, daddy loves Owen, mommy loves daddy, Owen loves Jesse etc! I think that song has taught my 2 almost 3 year old that Jesse is part of our family!!! Good luck you will figure out what is right for your family! Oh and we did a kids digital camera big bro gift at the hospital and it was a HIT! He could take pics of the new baby and other stuff plus it was a new toy to keep him entertained.
    TTC#1: 14 months on our own (did HSG, b/w, SA);
    BFP on Cycle 14--TWINS! Identical twin boys stillborn at 19wks(1/9/10)
    3 break cycles; took clomid 50mg, BFP #2 Beta #1 35, Beta #2 338!!! Owen was born 2/11/11! 
    TTC#2: 4 cycles on clomid: BFNs
    BFP #3: Cycle #5 100mg clomid; beta #1 21; beta #2 6=CP 
    Cycle #6 break cycle TTC no meds=BFN
    Cycle #7: 150 clomid+ovidril+IUI=BFN (switched to RE)
    Cycle #8: follistem+ovidril+TI=BFN
    Cycle #9 Forced break due to cyst
    Cycle #10 follistem+ovidril+TI=BFN
    Cycle #11 follistem+ovidril+TI=BFN
    Cycle#12 Forced break due to cyst, went on BCP; did repeat HSG, Saline U/S
    Cycle #13 IVF: Follistim/Menapur ER 11-30 11 eggs, 5 mature, 4 fertilized and 3dt on 12-3; BFN
    Cycle #14: IVF#2 lupron/follistim/menopur ER 1-22, 19 eggs, 14 fertilized, 5dt on 1-27, BFP!! beta 1: 63, beta 2: 119; EDD 10-15-13; 1 frozen embie
    Miracle Surprise BFP, EDD 10-1-15; saw HB great Betas, 11weeks lost baby MC at home
    Moved forward with FET transfered solo frostie on 6-4-15, beta 1: 315, beta 2: 738, u/s showed one baby on track EDD 2-21-16

    We told my DD right away. She is 2 so she does not get it yet fully. She is talking ok for now. Good Luck
