Strange sleeping/eating patters

So it seems like every time LO has a really good night of sleep (went to sleep at 11, woke at 4, woken again at 7:30), that the next time is the complete opposite. Last night was awful...she was up 5 times between 10-7 and would only eat for a few minutes before passing out and pretty much refusing to eat anymore. She'll usually eat for 30-40 minutes at a time in the MOTN.

Anyone else????????

Re: Strange sleeping/eating patters

  • Sounds like it could be gas? And that she's snacking instead of getting a well balanced meal of foremilk and hindmilk. If she's getting too much foremilk that will make her fussy too.

    Hope it gets better!

  • I agree it could be gas from the snacking and perhaps too much foremilk. I also think this is just par for the course with babies most of the time. Just when I think I have my LO figured out she grows up a little bit more and everything changes again.
  • Yeah, I agree it's a baby thing.

My LO had a hideous night 2 nights ago with short sleep stints and being awake for good at 6am, despite not going down till 10pm, but tonight she just did a 7.5 hour stint.

They're pretty inconsistent and unpredictable at this age.

  • This sounds just like my DS! He does the exact same thing, though a good night for us involves 2 wakeups. If he doesn't eat well I change his diaper to wake him up and get him to eat a little more. After the second or third wakeup I usually stick him in his swing to help him sleep a longer stretch because I need sleep too!
  • Babies are do strange. DD had an awful few nights then went 8-3:30 and then up for the day at 7...with a little party after the MOTN feeding when she didn't want to fall back asleep for a half hour. I think she is still working on the whole "dark quiet night = long sleep" thing but she is getting there.

How were the naps yesterday? That can have an impact.
  • Mine does this around every growth spurt.

  • Meh, my baby is FF so I don't think HOW their fed really makes a difference. He does the same thing. One night sleeps really well (only up twice) next night he sleeps maybe 2 hours total.

    Hang in there OP!
