Middle school teachers - when did you tell??

How many weeks were you (or will you be) when you tell your principal/staff? Students??

(It's all stressing me out a bit. I am dreading it.)

I teach high school, not middle school, but I actually told my students today. At the start of class, I just said "Over the weekend, we got some family pictures taken and I just had to show you how cute my little Parker is." Then I showed them my announcement photo (DS holding "Only child until April 2014" sign) and they all got it. It went over much better than I anticipated. It's just awkward, because they're old enough to know how that baby got there, but it was rather painless.

I'm not middle school (elementary) but...

I told my principal (and my co-teacher whom I'm close with) at 9 weeks, because I had to leave school early for the 2nd Friday in a row after my dr. ordered a dating ultrasound. I figured they deserved a real reason why I was asking to leave early again (1st appt. at 8 wks I passed off as just a 'Dr. appt')

I told the administrator yesterday (10w6d) and the rest of the staff today at 11 weeks exactly.

I'll tell my students on Monday (11w6d) and it'll be 'announced' to the school community via the school weekly newsletter next Friday (12w3d).

I teach high school but I told my students at 13 weeks. We played a game of hangman where I told them. They were excited and very cute about it.

Thanks ladies!! I am 12w3d today and I know I have to do it soon, but I'm just not sure how. My bump is starting to show a little and I don't want anyone asking questions. I'm a bad liar!

I'm 13 weeks today. I'm a high school teacher as well and I wrote a riddle for my students to figure out. They got really into it, but they haven't figured it out yet...I'm going to give them more clues tomorrow. It's been pretty fun! As for my principal, I told him around 9 weeks.

I'm not telling middle school kids, I teach 7th grade. I didnt tell last time, they figured it out. I don't owe it to 12 year olds to tell them.

I told my boss at 10 weeks.

I'm really close to all of my kids. They are my family too in my opinion and I treat them like that. I teach 7th and 8th grade. I told my principal super early (6 weeks) because I had some issues and needed to miss several days of the first few weeks of school. I told my kids at 12 weeks. They were all so excited and sweet!

I teach 8th graders. I am friends with a majority of the staff on fb, so they saw my announcement at 12 weeks. I had no desire to talk to my principal about my personal life, because I'm convinced she doesn't like humans. Adding a new human to the world didn't seem like something she would care about. She heard the news from the school rumor mill. .... I "officially" told the staff at a faculty meeting last week, but most people knew by then. ...... I haven't said anything to my students yet. One girl knows because she always comes to hang out in my room before / after school and during lunch. I told her, "My kid will know my voice, husband's voice, and your voice because you are always talking!" She laughed and caught on right away. I'm shocked she hasn't told anyone else.

I told my principal at 6 weeks because my team figured it out (I'm a horrible liar) and I didn't want her to hear from the rumor mill.

Kids, I confirmed when they asked the day I turned 12 weeks. I had one kid ask me before that, and I just gave him the death-stare.

I haven't told my 8th graders yet, but they are ALL talking about it. I am having twins, and am already showing some even just between 11-12 weeks. I want to tell them soon though :-) I like all of these ideas!

@CalinAZ - I teach 1st grade, so I'm not going to do anything complicated. I'll probably tell them at the beginning of they day, when we're getting started, that I have some good news - I'm going to have a baby! And leave it at that

I teach 8th grade. I told my principal and vice principal the 1st week of work (I was 7 weeks then) because I was spotting and taking doctor's calls, etc. I started telling staff individually around 12 or 13 weeks. I hate the idea of making an announcement to the staff (not a fan of being the center of attention, and one of our staff members just lost her baby at 23 weeks), and am fine with those I'm not close to finding out through the rumor mill, or by looking at me in a few weeks. As for my students finding out, I plan to wear one of the mommy/baby skeleton t-shirts on Halloween and see if they figure it out . . .

I was thinking of wearing a Halloween shirt with baby hand prints on the belly that says "Let Me Out" and tell everyone that day. I'm just not sure if my principal will be mad that other people find out before her. I don't see her every day. She's often at meetings or whatever. I see her like once a week. Maybe I'm over thinking it?? Maybe she won't care. But, I'm not close with her... I have no idea what she thinks about me!! =\

I student taught 8th grade when I was pregnant. I was about 20 weeks when the school year started and within 2 weeks other teachers were suggesting I tell my students because they were asking other teachers about it. Finally, one of the girls came up to me and asked if I had any kids yet. I replied, "No, but I will in a couple of months." I couldn't help but laugh as she ran out of the room to tell the rest of my students who were waiting outside of the room for her answer. They were incredibly sweet about it!

After stares at my pump, students asking other teachers and rumors starting to spread, I told my students last week at 13 weeks. It was random, for example, I mentioned out loud that my baby is doing the happy dance because a student had great higher level questions. It took them a second to process the news and then they began to applause.
I also told my co-workers at 13 weeks. They are 3 others teachers pregnant and we are all due days and weeks apart. My neighbor and bump- buddy are two days apart so we wrote a riddle on the whiteboard in the teacher's lodge. When we came to lunch my name was on the board because I was the one that was obviously pregnant.

I don't think anyone else at my school is pregnant... At least not that I know of. I'm 13 weeks tomorrow and I wear a lot of loose tops so I don't think anyone can tell. My bump is still pretty small. Maybe I'll tell next week. Or maybe I'll wait till Halloween and wear the "Let Me Out Shirt" and see who figures it out.

I teach 6-12 grade. My 5 classes of girls figured it out a couple weeks ago. My boys are clueless. I now have about 300 "worry mamas" that keep asking me if I'm sure I should still run and work out with them. Seriously ladies, it's one lap and Badminton lol! I haven't told admin yet because I'm new to the district and wanted them to see me as a competant teacher in observation before they saw me as the pregnant teacher. Maybe paranoid but will tell them soon. My teacher buddies all know and are tickled.

I'm loving the riddle idea! I might do something similar with my students (6th-8th graders). I had to tell my admin around 9 weeks because they were going to announce that I was the teacher going on the big 8th grade trip (that leaves on my due date) this year. Someone must have leaked the info that I'm not going to the kids because they are now speculating that I am pregnant ... don't know why they would think it otherwise (unless they overheard other teachers discussing it). I definitely want to make the official announcement to the kids myself because we have a good relationship and I think they will be excited. The question is when to tell them? I am 12 weeks 2 days now and not all of my fellow teachers know, but a good chunk of them do. Do I need to wait til I tell all the staff before letting my students know? If the students are already talking about it, I feel like I should do it sooner rather than later...

We are going to make our announcement on Tuesday since it's our anniversary. I'll be 13w on Wednesday. My principal knows bc I had a bleeding situation the first day of school and needed the 2nd day off for an appt. A couple of my good teacher friends know too. I know as soon as we make the announcement it'll be all over the school community bc that's just how it is. I'm still deciding when to tell my 2nd graders. Maybe on Wednesday after we make our announcement. I'm going to do it in a hangman message. They love that game.

I told my students, I'm almost 13 weeks. They were really excited, they always like to hear updates about "the littlest classmate", they can't wait for December when we are able to find out if we are having a boy or girl.

I teach middle school. I told a few of my coworkers at 8 weeks as a just in case/I had to tell someone! I'm really showing now 12wks 3days so I'm telling on Tuesday (as we don't have school Monday). I wanted to hear the heartbeat before I told my boss, (we do tht on Monday!) especially since he's not the most compassionate or understanding or warm person & I know the first question is going to be, "well who's going to take you class?" Or "are you going to miss state testing?"
