April 2014 Moms

This is a repeat post... Don't get angry

I'll post over on the cloth diapering board as well, but I was looking for names/ brands to start researching. I know about the bum genius, they look pretty good, any real person reviews? Ideally I would like something with inserts.

  • BG is a great place to start.  If you want to go the synthetic fiber route, Fuzzibunz and Blueberry are also good brands to check out.  Rumparooz too.

There are LOTS of smaller brands out there... tons of newer companies and WAHM type stores.  I can't begin to keep up with all of them!

www.kellyscloset.com and www.jilliansdrawers.com are good places to shop - they often have good sales.  www.diaperpin.com has a sale and announcement section that is GREAT for finding the latest promo codes on any online CD retailers (located here: https://www.diaperpin.com/sales_cloth_diapers.asp ).  and www.pinstripesandpolkadots.com has an amazing learning resource section for people who are new to cloth.  here's the link to that:

  • I'm so angry that you posted this again - TOTALLY KIDDING!!

I love Bum Genius!! I used to babysit a little boy whose mom had only Bum Genius diapers for him, and they're wonderful. When my husband and I put together our registry the other day, those were the first thing we listed.

  • My sister did bumgenius and they worked great. I had no issues using them when I visited and am planning on getting them for our baby. They used the disposable inserts, though, and I think I'd like to try the cloth, so we'll see how that goes :)

  • I love bg, but they are cut kind of big. I imagine that when I start using pockets on this lo, I will want to use my fuzzibunz and Charlie bananas for awhile because they are much more trim, especially through the legs.
  • I really like Rumparooz. They've held up really well for 2 years. I got the snaps and pockets. I think I'm going to get NB sized covers and pre folds to handle how skinny my baby's legs can be. Or at least DS had skinny legs.

  • I have a lot of BG and LOVE them. They are usually my go to's especially at night. But I also bought a stash of sun baby diapers and they are amazing! I would almost put them up with my BG and they are only about $5 each. I have some FB and they are nice but sometimes in between sizes I have leaking with those. Bumkins are terrible, and I don't like how alva's have zero stretch. I have 2 grovia all in one and they are trim so nice for church outfits so his booty isn't quite as big in his fancy clothes :)

  • Jillian's drawers is awesome and they have great smaller brands. Personally I don't care for bg, their Velcro does not hold up IMO, and fuzzy buns are just ok to me. Lots of great diapers on etsy and I love blueberry/swaddlebees because I think they hold up really well.

  • I love my BGs for pockets. I've tried Thorsties AIO and they're okay but definitely prefer BG. My favorite diapers are Twinkie Tush fitteds. She's a WAHM who stocks on Wednesdays, alternating 2 and 8 each week.

www.cottonbabies.com and www.abbyslane.com are where I shop mostly and they have free shipping. www.twinkietush.com is the WAHM I love but she's also pretty pricey (so worth it though IMO).

Which brand do you prefer for Velcro? I've found BG to have better Velcro out of the brands I've tried.

  • Oh oh I didn't love BG XS for newborn stage thought. I mean the fit and everything was fine but I was changing them at least hourly. I did love my Kissaluv size 0 fitteds with Thirsties duo wrap size 1 and my Lil Joeys. I plan on having mostly those in my NB stash. I have a ton of prefolds but I didn't like diapering with them. Most people recommend PFs though.

  • I think blueberry/swaddlebees has the best Velcro. But at this point I think I just prefer snaps.

  • @colleenswerb how did you order your alvas? Through the web site or ebay? I heard their web site had a problem and was just wondering. Also from the reviews, it seems like people either love or hate them. Thoughts? The price is so cheap, but is it one of those things where you get what you pay for?

  • I got them through some co-ops on FB, but I know lots of ppl who have ordered direct from the site.
I think you can't have super high expectations for a $5 diaper, but I can take DS out for errands for several hours in one and not have a leak.

So calling it a stash filler is a good description then but don't depend on it to be the best diaper in the stash? Seems reasonable to me.

Thanks! I will probably end of getting a couple to round out the stash a little.
