BFing ?

Even though the LC said call anytime I don't feel comfortable calling her at 830 or whatever on a Saturday.

Why would DD fuss about milk being so hard to get.. Out of my right breast it's several little streams. She doesn't like that. Lefty is one thick fast stream. But when I switch her to lefty and then I letdown again she is screaming bloody murder... Any ideas? I'm at a loss.

Re: BFing ?

  • I've had the same issue except with the right breast. For me I think it's a latching issue. It's harder for her to latch on to that side for some reason and when she does it's not always the best latch and I have to adjust her. At that point she gets really frustrated/ angry and won't latch on to that side at all. I'm hoping as she grows she learns to be more efficient and that it becomes second nature to latch.

I offer the breast she doesn't prefer first. If she doesn't take it I give her the other and then when she's done (and calm) offer the other one.

  • If you hand express a bit, so the let down is less strong/heavy would that help? I have to do that time to time in a towel, otherwise she gags and gets upset.

  • I'm confused...is she mad at the slow flow or heavy letdown? Or both?
  • @lokolahve. Both it seems. My right side only has little spurts.. 4-5 tiny streams. One at a time usually. The left is one thick stream. Like a faucet. The right is like a rain shower head.
Both fast but you can imagine a shower head with only one tiny stream. Or one that's over pressured with a single stream...

    That's my best analogy. :o/
  • @sfeebs13 try expressing the left a little like pp mentioned and maybe try a warm compress on the right to help the flow.
Has she always fussed about it? I have similar flow issues and LO has been through several bouts of boobie rage. I used to stress it was something to do with how much or how little milk she was getting but now I think it is more her being irritable in a growth spurt. She'll nurse no problem in the morning and early afternoon then she turns to fussy mcfusserson from 5pm on.
  • I have this problem as well
This is what works for me, I lay flat on my back and put lo on top of me to eat
    Or
    Side lay with him
He tolerates either way better than being held
  • If the LC said call anytime, she probably meant it. Babies have to eat after hours and on weekends, too.

Think she'd care if I called right now? It's only 530am on Sunday. Lol
Just kidding. I wouldn't do that to the poor woman. She's too sweet
