For those who haven't heard, his 2 year old son died as a result of injuries. Apparently, the boy's mother's boyfriend assaulted him. There is a special place in hell for people who hurt children. Awful, it literally makes me sick.

Breaks my heart that a woman would allow her child to be around someone like this. Breaks my heart even more that there are people in this world that think beating a child is okay. I hope he's charged with first degree murder...and that the prison inmates take care of him.

I would assume that she was getting beaten also. Men like that don't seem to discriminate. What a horrible situation, one that is all too commonplace. I hope that it being a high profile case that it brings awareness to the cause.

It was a big new story here in OK since Adrian Peterson used to play for OU. First I heard the kid was abused, then in the hospital, and now is gone :-( So horrible.

I just read this and it made me tear up, but also completely outraged me. How could a mother allow someone like this around her child? I know I have not been a mother long(my DD is only 8 months), but regardless, I think I'd beat the shit out of someone myself if they even tried to lay a hand on my daughter. I'm not an aggressive person, but still... I agree with @tmsgrl, there is definitely a special little corner in Hell for people who harm children...

Maybe I don't know the whole story, but why are people blaming the mother? Do we know that she knew the guy was abusive? Was she being abused herself? I would like to believe the best about her that she didn't know and is also devastated. Again, I might not know the whole story, but that snippet does not give enough info to lay blame on her.

Just wanted to add that the picture being sent around on FB and a Twitter is not the son who was killed and AP has asked that people take it down.

Following the news of his son's death on Friday, many people across the internet started posting pictures from this past summer's training camp when Adrian Peterson's son, Adrian, Jr., came for a visit. To make things perfectly clear, Adrian, Jr. is not the child that died in this week's tragic events in Sioux Falls.

As such, Peterson put the following out on Twitter this morning:

My son Adrian Jr. who lives w/me is healthy. Appreciate the concern. We respectfully ask to stop tweeting his pics.10:16 AM - 12 Oct 2013

We are currently not posting photos of my son who passed away. Thank u for your understanding.10:16 AM - 12 Oct 2013
We would like to pass this along in the hopes that, if you have tweeted or re-tweeted any pictures of Peterson and Adrian, Jr., or posted them to other social media sites, that you take a moment to take them down out of respect for the family's wishes.

The guy had a history of violence and I believe tried to kill an ex gf.

It's been all over the damn news here in MN, and I've ignored most of it, so I could be wrong.

That still doesn't make it right to blame the poor baby's mom. Like someone said previously, people who harm children are usually harming women also. And there's some crazy stat about how many babies/toddlers get killed by men they aren't related to.

He was arrested for abuse. I am sorry but you do not leave your 2 year old child with a man like this. I am not blaming her for his death, and my heart aches for her, but I am side-eyeing her judgement in leaving the kid alone.

But did she know he'd been arrested before? That's the point I'm trying to make - people like that man aren't the type to let his next victims know he has a history of abusing women and children. And I would be willing to bet that he is probably a smooth talker/able to manipulate others into trusting him.

Lurker here...my DS is 15 months and the idea of someone ever being able to physically hurt him is too overwhelming to even think about. I cannot imagine what that mother is going through and dating that man is a mistake that will haunt her forever. There is no punishment that the justice system or anyone can give her to make up for the knowledge that she brought someone into her child's life who then killed him.

Abusive situations are so complex and I have no idea as to whether she knew he had a history or not. The bottom line is that there is a little boy dead, a dad who never got to know him, a mom who no longer has her child and a man who has a special circle of hell reserved just for him.

I absolutely see your point. But, he had a lengthy history. Including an arrest just last year for an assault against a woman and child. And a few different protection orders against him. But, I don't know if she knew or not.
