This is for you:

Do you have any you would add to the list? I personally hate "anyways".

  • Ginormous. Giant + enormous. One of my college professors was notorious for making up words. My other favorite was "gihugeic", giant + huge + (something with 'ic').

  • @turtlemomma
Don't get me wrong, it's terrible. However, given the number of regulars, I actually am surprised it isn't worse! I also "high five" in my head whoever corrects grammatical errors in posts.
    Married DH <3 : 7/7/12; 3 fur babies (2 dogs and 1 cat)
DS born 9/3/13; DD born 7/22/15; LO due 5/28/18
FS (age 5) and FD (age 2) to become AS/AD very soon!

  • "Same difference" No.
The use of "anyways" is like nails on a chalk board.
"Are" used in place of "our".
  • This is a battle you will NEVER win. Hence, we share in the frustration.

  • I can't stand when people confuse then and than.
  • People mixing up "want" and "won't" also drives me crazy.

  • Loose instead of lose drives me nuts.

    OMG I agree!

  • My husband always uses "proverbial" and it drives me fucking insane every time! Just because you are using a metaphor does not mean you have to say that goddamn word in everyday sentences!
  • Loose instead of lose drives me nuts.

    OMG I agree!

    Me too!

  • First - LOVE this thread.

Secondly - my SIL says "know" instead of "no" and my cousin says "all" instead of "aw".. I am surrounded by grammatical stupidity.

  • I thought of another one when I was talking to someone at DH's high school reunion.
Using ideal instead of idea. Example: I had a great ideal. They never use idea where they should use ideal though. Ha!
  • Although I shouldn't be talking since I tend to make grammatical errors myself (bad proofreader), I can't stand the confusion between your and your're.

It's not that hard to figure out.

  • @BellaOso my family uses seen incorrectly all the time. They sound like hillbillies. It's really annoying. They also pronounce "him" as "heeem".

My favorite sentence " I seen heeem at the store other day."

  • I worked in a coffee shop when I was in school and I hated when people said expresso! I also hated when people had no idea what they were ordering. If you want espresso and milk and I am filling the cup up, it's a latte, I don't care what else you want in it. Starbucks ruined the word macchiato for everyone too.

  • I hate when people confuse "breath" and "breathe". Also, when people say "All's you gotta do is..." It's ALL, not All's. That's not even a word.
  • Where I live people don't seem know the difference between "sell" and "sale". And it's not just how they say the words, it's a written thing as well. "I bought this sweater on sell" or "I have a truck for sell". Eeeek!
Another thing that gets me is "whenever" instead of "when". Is this a Southern thing?

  • It drives me crazy when I hear anythink or everythink instead of anything or everything. My old boss, a 68 year old CEO who believed he was smarter than all the rest of us, used to use it and it always made me secretly smile at his little bit of stupid.

  • I'm a copy editor, and every day I want to scream "Lose has ONE O!" Also, I hate the overuse of "utilize." Oh, and here's a good tip to remember how to spell "definitely" (a.k.a., definately, defiantly). Only A-holes spell "definitely" with an A. (Courtesy of The Onion)

  • I could go on and on posting to this thread!
How about when people misplace a dollar sign or an apostrophe?? Like "She bought a shirt for 20$ to support the class of 13'."
  • I have terrible grammar, but I hate when people type da instead of the. Are you trying to sound ignorant? It's the main reason I deleted my fb account.
  • Double negatives kill me...example: "I don't want no help"
  • Affect and effect are often used incorrectly as well. That one I see all the time, even in business correspondence.

  • Ezactly.
"The cleaning, the scrubbing will wait til tomorrow,
For children grow up, as I've learned to my sorrow.
So, quiet down cobwebs. Dust go to sleep.
I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep."
  • "Axe" instead of "ask" makes me cringe....and wonder if the person graduated kindergarten

  • I forgot one. When people say "one years old".. Um pretty sure one isn't plural. You can just say one year old.
