umbilical hernia?

Just curious if anyone else LO is having this issue. We noticed our sons about 1 week ago. I called our Ped (she's a family friend) on a Friday evening and she wasn't in town. When I saw her at church that Sunday she said that's exactly what it was and said it wasn't cause for concern. It looks swollen and a bit irritated and uncomfortable.

Baby seems to be unphased by it, but it worries me. Anybody elses Ped say differently?

Re: umbilical hernia?

  • DD had an umbilical hernia and it went away all in its on. It took some time but no treatment or surgery was necessary. I think it took about a year and a half to completely go away.

  • They can take years to go away. If they haven't resolved when they get close to school age its unlikely they'll go away so they can be fixed surgically
  • DD has it too. My ped said the same thing your did. She isn't phased by it so I'm not either. I think it just bothers us becuase we can see it.

  • I have one since birth and it's never been a problem. It became a bit more apparent when I was pregnant but it still wasn't a problem.
