is a white crib too girly for gender-neutral nursery?

gender is a surprise and i am leaning towards a mix of modern and vintage for nursery decor--teal-ish walls, probably grey rocker/chair, antique brown wood dresser ...walls and linens will have some fun pops of color...but the color of crib is leaving me stumped! my mom thinks its a tiny bit girly..but for a baby --who cares right?and i kinda don't think its fair that we have these double standards on gender anyways...brown or blue is ok for girls, but a boy who likes pink or purple..'yikes' according to most folks :(

  • I think that white is OK for a baby boy crib.

  • I was in a similar situation.  I didn't know the genera but really wanted a white crib.  (ended up having a girl)  I think white is fine for a baby no matter what.  LO won't sleep in the crib for awhile so if you're on the fence you can always wait until it's born and then make your decision if you're afraid white is too girly if it's a boy.

  • We decided to get white furniture to fit with the gender neutral decor we had in mind (grey teal and white). LO turned out to be a boy and we still love it. It's a convertible crib too so it'll be used for quite a while and we find that white is more versatile. His room turned out quite nicely and doesn't look too girly or too boyish.

  • We have a white crib and have two boys. Looked fine with the paint color we choose for both rooms. They are just babies, I think white is sweet.

  • i didnt' think it would be too girly either but my mom put that bug in my ear!!! i love her to death but her decor sense isnt' that great anyway :(
have the teal walls, antique brown dresser , some fun colorful panels/wall decor  and probably a grey chair..so i think it will be lovely !

    thanks ladies :)
  • I originally wanted a white crib for DS. I think white is perfectly fine for a baby/kid. I also wanted to get a convertible crib so he can use it for a long time. DH then pointed out that he didn't think a boy teenager would want to have a white bed. We ended up getting a darker wood color and I have been very happy with it.

This was me too. Since ours can be used as a full sized headboard, I also figured a teenage boy wouldn't want a white bed. We had a girl anyway, but honestly, who knows if we would even want to use it that long? White is fine.

  • We reused our white crib for baby boy.  Here's a pic of his nursery.  I don't think it looks girly at all.
