Success after IF

PPD Recovery Update

Thanks to all who posted such supportive messages to me about my PPD.  I am feeling much better.

Zoloft has helped.  BFF came up from Florida this week and she has been an angel.  She is helping with Delilah and it's just lovely to have her here.  I also have seen a great therapist who is so incredible insightful.  And I foiund a great nanny who is spending some time here so I can get a break.

I think my body was so pumped full of hormones for so long, it doesn't know what a "normal" level is!  PPD snuck up on me.  I never anticipated to have my sweet baby girl that I dreamed of and get depressed.  My feelings of wanting to run away totally freaked me out.

The therapist has been comforting.  She made sense out of my feelings.  And it helps to have a mental health professional tell me that I am not crazy, I am not losing my mind, and that this is an illness I contracted.  She asked me if I would feel guilty if I got an infection, or a cold.  Or course not!  And to try and see this the same way.  The guilt has really been tough.

DH has been wonderful.  He's relieved that I am getting better.  I haven't been crying all day, and I am eating.  Food still doesn't have much appeal for me, but I am eating.  When my love of food returns, I'll know how far I have come.

My mind was in a very dark place when I posted previously.  Very dark.  It feels good to know I am better now.  Not completely over this, and I will likely be on medication for a while, but I can now see the light again and know this is just temporary.

Re: PPD Recovery Update

  • Oh, I'm so happy for you. Just keep taking some time for yourself and reminding yourself that you are not alone, PPD is very common and almost all moms who get it, don't at all expect it. Keep getting better!!! Yay!

Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! It took over four years to be diagnosed with PCOS. We TTC #1 for 18 months, did 5 rounds of Clomid and finally moved onto IVF...which worked! Throughout our IF journey, we suffered 3 miscarriages. We conceived both DD and DS without treatment.
