If you could go on vacation without your lo's, would you?

My husband has planned a vacation for just he and I and as it gets closer, I just really don't know how I'm going to do it. We will be gone for several nights. DD1 is older and understands that were going on vacation but DD2 isn't old enough to completely understand and I feel like shes going to think I left her. It's so easy for my husband to just go and he doesn't understand. I'm a SAHM. Anyway, I'm sure the way I'm feeling is normal but I just wondered if any of you had a chance to go on a trip without kids if you would to it. Thanks.

I would go for a few nights, but definitely not a week. We have done up to two nights, and that is about my max for the time being.

DH has planned a one week trip to Hawaii for our 5 year anniversary in January. Although I love Hawaii, to be honest with you, I would rather stay at home with DD. I know I will have a good time once we get there, but I will miss her like crazy. I think she will do fine when we are gone. She will be staying at our house with my mom, so everything around will be familiar to her. My mom watches her 3 to 4 days a week, so she is used to that. Although I will miss her like crazy, I could use a vacation. So I know it will be good for us to get away for a little while. And I'm sure she will be getting lots of goodies from Hawaii!!!

We just got back from being away and it was really good for my DH and I, I missed our DS but luckily we knew that he was doing very well. We share a summer home at the beach with my parents and so they all stayed there while we were away, so he had his room and is very comfortable with my parents.

It felt really good for our marriage to get away just the two of us, like we were able to remember who we used to be before we became mommy and daddy. Definitely rekindled our sparke! So if you have family willing to watch LO and you feel comfortable with the situation I would say go!

Right now, the most I would probably be comfortable with is a long weekend. But, DS is only 18 months. As he gets older, I would potentially do it, but we only get so much vacation time a year that, quite frankly, I probably wouldn't want to take a week of it on a trip without my kids. Ask me that again, though, when I have a teenager!

Yes. We went to Mexico for 5 days for a wedding when DS was almost 9 months old and it was great. We were discussing last night going to Hawaii and when we realistically thought we could do it. Since we're TTC #2 right now, and we have plans for most of my PTO next year already (family trips, etc...) we figure it'd be around when #2 is close to 2 (assuming #2 happens sooner rather than later).

Yes, I would jump at the chance. The kids would be fine with my parents or in laws and would have a blast. DS1 is old enough to understand (and we've gone on trips without him before) and DS2 may miss us in the beginning but would adjust just fine and get some good bonding time in with his grandparents. I feel like the longer we wait to do something like this, the harder it will be for DS2. We left DS1 with my sister in law for 5 nights when he was 18 months old and he had a blast. We haven't had the opportunity to leave DS2 for more than 1 night and he did great, too.

This! We have only ever gone overnight. Honestly, now while she's little (18 months) I'd rather do vacations as a family.

I don't think it has anything to do with the fact that you're a SAHM. I'm a working mom and I still don't want to go away without LO. I just think men are different than women. My husband keeps telling me how he would love to go away for a week without LO.

Yes. I still need to be me without kids sometimes. I also think it makes me come back and appreciate everything a bit more. I've never done more than 1 night, but that's just b/c of H's schedule now, but we're hoping to do 3-4days next year for our anniversary.

Honestly, no, I couldn't. I could go away for a couple of days and leave DS with DH, but for both of us to leave him.... that won't happen until he's old enought to talk.

I would do it. DH and I are actually going away for the weekend next month. I wouldn't leave for more than a few nights, but I think it's an awesome opportunity to be able to recharge with just your spouse.

DH has really been pushing for this lately. He wants us to go on a cruise and really doesn't want us to bring DD. I don't think I'm ready, maybe next year.

I wouldn't now for more than a night. I have never left DS for more than a few hours (he's 13 months) and the longest I've left DD was 2 nights while I was in the hospital with DS. She was 16 months before I even had her spend the night at a grandparents house. Maybe in a couple years I could do a long weekend.

Absolutely! DD loves staying at my ILs and they love having her. We did a weekend away this last summer and she barely noticed we were gone. I would definitely go for longer than a weekend if given the opportunity.

My parents took DS for three nights the end of June. They went and stayed at my grandma's 3 hours away. It was for a family reunion and graduation party. DH and I couldn't go because we had a wedding. So while DH and I didn't really go anywhere it's a similar situation. I missed DS like crazy but we had a great time that weekend and DS loved all the attention from all the relatives that hadn't seen him yet.

Next March we are going to Cancun for a week. I know it will be hard but I'm looking forward to all the time I will be able to spend with DH and the friends that we are going with.

We are going for a week in December (when DS will be 18 months). We had gone a few days here and there by ourselves. I spent 4 days away from DS last month on a business trip and I don't think he even noticed

I had the chance, DH won a cruise from work. LO was six months but I just couldnt do it. He left and had fun, but I just knew I'd be a mess. DH and I are saving up for a big week long Alaska vacation in a few years for our 10 year anniversary, but that'll be when DD is older. I just dont feel comfortable now.

DH works outside of home so I think it just comes more natural to have DD out of his sight. I'm a SAHM so I'm not used to leaving LO. On LOs first birthday is really the first time we even left DD alone with anyone besides us. My parents watched her while we went out for our anniversary. We've sinced used a babysitter a few times (mostly while DD is sleeping) and even those 2 hours are worrisome for me. No long weeks for me even if DD were with family.

We leave in one week for 6 days in Puerto Rico. It's going to be hard, but we need the time away. And the sleeeeeep. OMG, the sleeeeep!

Nope, not really interested. I would go away for a night or two, but that's it. I would be more willing to leave my daughter since she's older, but they're only this little for so long...I have the rest of my life to go on kid-free vacations.

My parents just kept DD for 4 days - we didn't even go anywhere, just got stuff done around the house, relaxed, went out to dinner. It was honestly kind of blissful. I was more than ready for her to come home, but especially with #2 on the way I know the time we have to relax like that is limited and I don't feel guilty about enjoying it! DD also totally adores my parents and would rather be playing on their farm than home anyway, so that helps. I love that she loves going down there, its good for all of us!

I mostly lurk here but wanted to chime in. My DH and I went away for 4 days right before DS turned 1, and it was amazing. We had such a good time just focusing on us. I missed DS but he was great at my parents house and will never remember it. People need to do what is right for them, and if you are miserable the whole time you are gone there is no point in going. However, I would recommend it to any new parents because it is so important to feel like a normal well rounded person again instead of constantly n mommy mode.

Go for it! I have a lot of guilt because I work full time and have a long commute but we took a short weekend in June and it was great. Theres especially no reason to feel guilty since you're a stay at home mom and you have plenty of time with the kids. Your kids will be happy with grandparents and there's nothing to feel bad about when considering time spent with grandparents. Go and enjoy yourselves,

DH and I took a 5day trip to Jamaica in May, it was awesome. Left our DD (almost 3) and DS (15months) home with Grandmom. The kids barely missed us. I would have gone even longer, but I didn't know if my mom could handle it.

We did! I felt like you but asked the working moms to help me out & their words were SO helpful! We went to Vegas and went crazzzzy it was so fun & a staple to our year! It was hard to leave, but once the plane landed, we were good! Mine were 3 & 1 and both accepted the experience well! But they were happy at our return & reality set in immediately. There wasn't a moment either let me out of their sight for a week after. Cute!

I don't plan on leaving ds until he is several years old. Plus right now he is still bf so that would complicate things.

I would maybe do a weekend, but not any more than that. While everyone is different, I actually really like having my LO along on vacation. Yes, it is a different kind of vacation than we had before, but we love seeing new places through her eyes!
