Tips for dealing with morning sickness

Since sooo many of us are probably feeling awful right now. I thought we could post any tips we have found for copping.

For me:
-Soda water with lemon works wonders!!! Why didn't I think of this my last pregnancy?!?

-if super smell sensitive like me keep a cut lemon near by to sniff. You may look like a weirdo but we are in survival mode.

- suck on strong flavored hard candy. Tends to take over senses and help cope with smells..... Especially when you have coworkers next to you who eat stinky food! This applies for the last tip too. :)

Anyone else found things that help??

  • Another thing... If you are in a restaurant and get a glass of soda water. Make sure you are not charged for it. It should be free but a lot of servers will charge you for a soda. They just don't know better :) (I have worked in many restaurants and this comes up all the time!!
  • I have also relied on the hard candy. Jolly ranchers have been perfect. Anyone find ginger candies?

Ginger ale! Canada Dry has real ginger in it so I had been using that and it seemed to help some.

Starchy foods (especially served with protein): rice, potatoes & steak, Peanut Butter crackers

B6: B-natal candies (from your pharmacist, no Rx needed) or just a vitamin.

I always find that what works at week 3 (yes I start getting sick that early) is different be week 7, changes again by week 10/11, and then I am on my own until it finally lets up for me around week 14. Fortunately although I've been much sicker this time around I'm down to just a couple really bad days a week and the rest are almost nausea free :)
  • Sadly I work in a store that sells 'house filling fragrance' and the smells are always getting to me. When working I have to do the mind over matter as much as possible and drink lemon water and crackers.
  • Tums Freshers work wonders for me! Also, water infused with mint. The whole peppermint taste/smell seems to calm my nausea.
  • Salty snacks... though what actually works varies from day to day. Mostly, eating whatever I'm "craving" (or whatever doesn't sound barf-inducing at the moment!) has helped.

B6 I'm pretty sure has helped. I'm taking a quarter of a 50mg tab once a day... might take more, or more often, after I talk to my midwife this week!

  • Went to the Ren Fest today and one of the scented oil ladies made me a concoction to help. She made it for me when I was KU with the twins and it was super helpful. Mixture of clove oil, ginger oil, rosemary oil, and peppermint oil. Works pretty well! Just put a dab under each nostril and it lasts awhile. Helps somewhat!

  • Salted popcorn and mini pretzels. Ginger biscuits, sea bands, b6 and keeping some food in your stomach at all times. Also, if it doesn't sound good then don't even attempt to eat it!
