The old needle and thread gender test

So I wondering if you moms who already have kids have ever tried it and was it accurate? My mom swears by it and so do lots if people I know. My first child was a boy, and I just did the test and it showed boy then girl and then stopped dead. I am feeling much worse with this pregnancy than the last, so I was kind if thinking girl anyway.

Care to comment?

  • Sorry but seems pretty silly to me...

  • I know what they say about OWTs, but I'm going to try this when DH gets home. Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to go out and buy clothes or anything based on this, but it's fun.

  • I don't believe in this but did receive a prediction of one boy and then one girl from a sorority sister in college. I guess we'll see if coincidence matches.

  • We tried this in my office as another girl is pregnant too. It didn't really work for us, but it was hard to tell if the holder was affecting the needle or not, just with small unconscious movements.

  • My family swears by it! It is right every time we do it on my grandma, mom, and Aunt! It says I'm supposed to have a girl first so we shall see! Haha I don't take it seriously but it's pretty fun!
  • My mom does this.  She was right for both my sister's kids, and two of her friends.  She was wrong for me with C, but I already knew when she was doing the test so I think that skewed it!  I think it's a fun thing to do, either way :)

  • I've done this with myself and it says girl, girl, boy, boy. So far I have two girls and then a boy and would like another boy. It was correct for my mom and my sister as well. So well I don't think it's 100% fact it's fun to try and it's been right for all I know who have done it.

what about the chinese gender chart???
  • As with all things gender related, this trick works 50% of the time. It's no different than determining your child's sex via coin toss.

  • What is the needle and thread trick?
  • Thread a needle, then dangle it over your open palm. If it swings in a line, it means boy. If it swings in a circle it means girl. You have to stop once it makes an obvious movement, then let it dip into the crook between thumb and forefinger and then dangle over your open palm again. Idk why it works but it does.
  • This is one OWT that I love! Our friends aunt showed us this and she swears by it and said she has been right every time.
We did it one night at a girls night at my house. It was correct for everyone that already had kids (a few are just now pg so it will be fun to know when they find out the gender). One friend even had her tubes tied after one - and it said BOY and then it just stopped.
We did it numerous times (letting a different person hold it each time) and it always repeated the same reading as before for each person.
Mine was Girl, Boy, Girl, Boy.
I am getting my tubes tied with this RCS....so I won't have 4. But I do have a girl and a boy so far.

  • It was correct for my 1st and 3rd sons (when I was feeling pretty good about having either gender), but with my 2nd son I REALLY wanted a girl and the needle stayed perfectly still. I think your body knows so if you can really clear your mind you can get an accurate result, but most of the time our brains screw it up.

I always thought you were supposed to do it over the belly?

I don't really believe in it but it would be fun to try.

  • Me and my sister in law do this but instead of needle we use string and a ring u place the ring over your belly if it swirls in a circle its a girl if it just lingers still its a boy its so fun
  • I'm just going to wait for Dec 5th when I go in for my ultrasound.  Until then I'm going to enjoy wondering who I have floating around in there.

  • Did this a LONG time ago. Mine said boy then stopped dead. After a very long while it started up again and said girl then boy. There's a 14 year gap between my 1st child (which is a boy) and now pg self so I always took it to mean a long wait between children. We'll see what happens! I tried it on a lady I used to work with that I knew had 2 children and it said 5 children for her. She told me it was correct and that she'd had 1 mc and 2 abortions. It's interesting for sure...
