1 month old had blood in stool

my daughter just had a bowel movement and husband and i noticed a mucousy blood in her stool. is it normal? i called her dr. and we're still waiting on a call back...has anyone gone through this? i thought maybe she was pushing hard and caused an anal tear but i didnt see a tear or anything. just blood in her stool.

Re: 1 month old had blood in stool

  • This happened to my cousin's daughter due to a milk allergy. They had to use Alimentum formula

  • it was a bright red, the dr said she will see her tomorrow, but i'm still scared and don't know what caused it
  • thank you ladies so much. im trying not to worry. she's not in discomfort now and she's knocked out. poor thing was crying so hard earlier. her stool was pretty hard. the dr will see her in the morning.
  • Agree with PPs. My LO also has a tiny bit of blood due to small fissures. It was sad but she healed fast.
  • thank you everyone! my husband took her to the dr this morning and said that she was just pushing too hard and that her weight and everything is great and that gerber apple juice will help her stool soften up
  • I have just been lurking around lately but wanted to chime in on this.

My DS had the same thing, bright red blood and mucus in stool. It was on a Sunday and I called the ped and said to bring him to the ER. They ended up admitting him and we stayed for 2 nights. They thought it was a milk allergy and we were released on a Tuesday. They got the final cultures back the next day and it was actually Salmonella. He is still on antibiotic right now for it.
