Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

In need of clothing brand recommendations

Hi everyone!  I'm in need of some clothing recommendations and though I would reach out to the collective wisdom of the Bump.

DD is 16 months old.  Most of her clothes are from carters/oshkosh and oldnavy/gap, and up until now they've been fine.  However, DD really needs new pants and I find us in a pickle.  DD is in the 5th percentile for weight but 40th for height.  In these brands, the 12 month pants fit her waist but are too short, they're like capris.  The 18 month pants are the right length, but won't stay up.  I even bought her 18 month Oshkosh overalls, and she's swimming in them.  It's kind of cute actually but not very comfortable or warm.

Can anyone recommend a brand that would fit our needs?  I don't want to just blindly order some pricey hannah andersson or gymboree without knowing if they're even close.

  • Definitely Adjustable waist pants, we have the same problem and the only pants that fit are the ones that you can tighten the waistband on.  Gap has them and if you can get to an outlet, or hit them when they are having a sale, the price is not bad at all.

TTC#1 May 2009- July 2010 on our own with no luck

Started with RE in August 2010, dx with unexplained IF and then finally our 3rd IUI cycle using Follistim and Trigger resulted in our wonderful little man.  Born 12/2/11

TTC#2 Never really prevented, but were careful early on as Dr. reccomended

Surprise BFP 12/16/13, started progesterone immediately as first numbers came back low, but betas were good.  Progesterone wasnt enough. Natural MC 12/24/13.

Back with RE as of January 2014...

  • We have adjustable waist pants from Children's Place, Crazy 8, Gap, Old Navy and Osh Kosh.
  • Levis toddler jeans are also great for this. DD has a few pairs of them with adjustable waist bands.
  • I actually don't think adjustable waist pants always work. For my DD they are still too big around her body and fall down and pull her underwear with them.  The majority of her clothes are from Children's Place.  And she lives in leggings and jeggings.  My DD will be 3 in January and is the same way between 2T/3T sizes.
  • We also have adjustable waist pants.  I have some name-brand ones already mentioned above and a pair from Meijer.  I also agree with the leggings.  They have a tighter fit and fall down less.

  • thanks for all the suggestions!  we do have several leggings, but they look weird with her long sleeve onesies.  i guess it's time to buy her some shirts too!

  • You can find Levi's at Macys and Buy Buy Baby
  • I've bought a pair of straight leg pants at H&M that are great for DD (2-4). She's about 36" and 26 lb. The waist is adjustable, but because the pant legs are long enough for a 4 year old and straight, they roll up really nicely which can make for a better fit when LO is taller.

  • I love the Children's place jeans

  • Mexx & Hurley pants fit (adjustable waist) our son perfectly but can be pricey if not on sale. At a better price point the Children's Place (not adjustable waist) fit great! He was in 12 month jeans until I found the Children's place ones this summer and they were on the brink of being capris!

  • We have the same problem. I bought a pair do Old Navy skinny jeans. They fit like regular jeans. We live in leggings and dresses.
  • I just checked oldnavy.com, and it says the adjustable waist pants are only available in 2T and up? maybe i need to check the store.

I got my son some Old Navy 18-24 mos adjustable waist jeans in the store. Not sure if they make them smaller than that, but I bet they do.

  • We have the same issue. We can't just buy adjustable waist pants. They have to be slim fitting as well or they just look weird. We have had really good luck at The Children's Place and some from Old Navy, but we had to try them on to make sure they would work. The kid has no butt. Even with cloth diapers his pants still try to fall off!

  • Children's Place has the pants with the adjustable waist. Those might work for you.

  • I would check out jeans/pants from The Children's Place.

It initially annoyed and confused me that their infant pants were sized 12 mo, 12-18 mo, 18 mo, 18-24 mo, but then I actually paid attention to the 2 pair of jeans DD has.

The 18 month and the 18-24 month pairs are the exact same width/fit at the waist, but the 18-24 pair is about an inch and a half longer.

So maybe the 12-18 month size will work for your LO since presumably it is cut like the 12 month size, except for longer.
