Babies: 3 - 6 Months

STM's, please tell me it gets easier!

My DD just turned one month yesterday. She is my second, I also have a 3/yo DS. I love her to pieces, and the first 10 days of her life were an absolute dream, but lately things have been getting harder, rather than easier. Being so young she doesn't have any sort of "schedule" yet, and I find I'm pretty much up from 3am on with her just taking little cat naps in that time frame. I am exhausted and feeling like I'm letting my DS down because she is being extra clingy and fussy right now. She seems to get tired every hour and a half or so, so I feel like I am constantly rocking her. I did this before and keep telling myself this time will pass and it will get better, but guess I'm just looking for reassurance that what I'm feeling is "normal" and that it really will get better/easier. Thanks!

Re: STM's, please tell me it gets easier!

  • I have an almost three year old DS and felt the same way the first few weeks after DD was born. It was rough and I also felt like I was letting DS down. It does get better though! DD is three months old now and things really are pretty easy. Once we got a bedtime routine down and she started to sleep better things really changed. I also have her nap in her room with white noise so I'm not constantly shushing DS. I also felt like I was constantly trying to get her to sleep (and some days still am). But I was surprised how quickly we all adjusted. Hang in there! :)

  • Thanks for all the tips and advice. I remember with my first there are always those challenges along the way. That goes on their whole lives! I think in my case I am just feeling really sleep deprived, and hoping that will continue to improve, for the most part. My DH works a lot of the time both are awake, but does help out when he can. With everything, it will get better with time!
