Endometriosis

For those who have this dx, tell me anything you can about it.

I am totally jumping to conclusions here, but this month AF has brought the most painful pelvic pain I've ever had. I've always had moderately painful AF cramps but this month is unlike anything I've ever felt (including contractions). I'm googling like crazy and scaring the s*** out of myself that I have this now.

I am scheduled to have an HSG next week. That wouldn't be able to dx endo would it?? I know I need to just talk to my doc but I figured I'd start here first. TIA!!

Uh-oh.  Well my dear not to freak you out more but the only way they can DX endo is with surgery.  They can 'assume' based on symptoms.  They have to go in lap and look around, and at that time they would clean it out IF you had it.  However, even if they clean it up it doesn't go away.  I am so sorry.

    ETA: fix spelling

  • Also Endo is very painful during your friends visit, and often cramps up at other times. Endometriosis is the reason for my blocked tubes and my hydro, which in turn is why I have to have my tubes removed before we do a transfer.  A lot of women have it and the severity of it can range to mild to extreme.

  • Thank you for the info @freakyfast. Like I said, I am def jumping to conclusions but the pain today has just really freaked me out. I guess I will go ahead with the HSG next week and just talk to the doc then about my new concern. Forgive me for sounding stupid, but you said blocked tubes and hydro. What is hydro??

  • Oh no you don't sound stupid... I didn't know what it was either.  I explained it the other day on another thread, but since the endometriosis blocked up my tubes it caused me lots of problems. Endometriosis has completely destroyed my tubes.
(I just cut and pasted this from another thread)

Basically what this is, is a blocked tube that fills with fluid, and an egg can't make it through the blockage.  The fluid is toxic and if a baby does implant it can't basically wash it away.  So my RE won’t even do a transfer with hydro in a tube.  It reduces your changes of implantation with IVF by 50% (I am not sure of the actual #'s, but this is what he said).  They can determine a hydro from an HSG, because on the xray the dye just pools in the tube and doesn't drain out.

I found this website, its not my RE but explains it pretty good:

kndeckar don't freak out yet... It could just be a rougher visit.  They can tell from an HSG if you have a hydro, but in my case I probably have had endo for a very long time and it just destroyed my tubes.  They ran dye through my tubes a year ago, and at the time they thought the tube was open but in fact it wasn't it was a hydro.  I then had a pregnancy in April end in ectopic because of all the scarring from endometriosis the poor thing couldn't get through.  My RE scheduled another HSG to make sure it was hydro and it was.  So endometriosis can be a bad deal, but there are different levels of it.  Are you on different meds or do anything different this past month that could cause a painful visit??
I have had to have prescription meds for my cramps because they get so bad.  But my PC didn't even think about endometriosis and I was only diagnosed with it after over a year of TTC.  I would tell you to stay off Google, but we both know that would be a waste of time for me to tell you that.  I say get as informed on it as you can, so you know to ask the right questions and you can be prepared.  I am sorry.. Lots of (HUGS) to you and hopefully it is just a rough month? Change in weather maybe? ((HUGS))

ETA: Fix spelling and sorry its sooooo long

This is the same for me too. Maybe that's a factor?
Glad it's not just in my head!

  • My cycle wasn't any longer than normal and I can't really even think of anything different about this cycle. Now I'm kind of thinking it might not even be menstrual related. It's a weird pain. I will definitely be discussing it with my doc next week. Thanks ladies for all the info and not thinking I'm a crazy person!
