Do you think some women just know?

Do you think some women can just tell when someone is pregnant? I travel for work and visit one hospital 1-2x a month. They all know me, as I've been going there for about 1.5 years.

I'm 7w3d and one nurse kept staring at me and saying something is different. I haven't gained any weight - maybe lost a pound. I certainly do NOT have the pregnancy glow (I'm starting to believe it's a myth). I haven't changed my hair or anything. She kept trying to guess what was different. I just made up an excuse at this point.

I've heard that some women claim they can tell. Anyone else experience this? Just curious.

  • This is the reason I can't see my SIL until we're ready to announce. She figured I was pregnant last time at 4 wks and she's had 2. Unfortunately that one didn't work out for us, but I know that if I were to see her in the next week or so, she'd have me busted straight away.

  • Yes. I'm meeting up with one of my best friends for coffee next week and she just sent me a text to remind me and finished off with 'you're pregnant arn't you?' I asked why she was asking and she said she just had a feeling. Also one of the pregnant nurses at work just looked at me one day and said I have a feeling you're pregnant. And this was before MS started

  • Totally. We facetimed my MIL and SIL to tell them and the first thing they said was that I looked different. I told them I had just gotten my hair done, but they said that wasn't it. Then they both said "are you pregnant?!" Busted.

  • I think so. I had one co-worker who is relatively new DREAM that I was pregnant. We also had to go to a wake the other night, sadly, and our friend's mother who hasn't seen me since his son's wedding about 6 months ago said quietly out of earshot of others. "Congratulations, you look great! What is your due date?" Nearly knocked my DH off his feet. She said after the fact that it wasn't just the way I looked and how I was acting, but how DH was extra protective.

  • I think some women may have that extra sense or be more perceptive especially if they have been pregnant before or have had many friends that are. As a nurse I'm a pretty perceptive person and I might notice some things but I don't think id chalk it up to pregnancy but who knows, now that I'm pregnant myself maybe ill just guess in the future however I'd never blurt it out to anyone!

  • I do think it's rude to just come out with it though. i'm sure there's plenty of people who have cottoned on to me being pregnant, but they've all been polite enough not to ask. I think people should respect our privacy, especially this early on. Anyway, I don't care if i'm 36 weeks and carrying triplets - if I don't want to go public, it's my decision!

  • My sister figured it out!  She didn't come out and ask me yet, but she's been talking to my mom about it.  We told my mom & dad, so they are playing along with her, but she definitely knows.  In fact, skyped with my youngest sister and told her how she thinks I'm pregnant!

  • One of my friends, who didn't even know we were trying told me I was pregnant before I knew I was pregnant. Took the test a couple days later and viola. Here I am. Could've been a guess or maybe she has a new job. A human pregnancy detector!
  • My BFF's mom.  Both times she's known.  The first time was before I had even tested.

  • My mom did the first time even before we knew. She is the one that told me to POAS. this time I told her before I saw her but I bet she would have guessed it this time too.

  • I was about to write an almost identical post today! A few weeks ago, when I'd only known I was pregnant a week or so, a co-worker was eating crab sticks in the staff room (gross to me when I'm not pregnant, let alone now!) she said she can't stop eating them, and the last time she had a weird craving, another co-worker was pregnant. So she looked around and said she knew someone in the room was pregnant, and looked directly at me. I point blank denied it was me. Today (I'm 8 weeks and have a substantial blump - this is my 3rd pregnancy, I have one son and a mmc previously) she said she knows I'm pregnant because she can tell. When I denied it she pointed out my blump and said its obvious, but she knew for weeks somehow. Im pissed because of our previous loss in June because I'm not ready to tell yet, so I've sworn her to secrecy. Only our parents know we are pregnant again. I agree I think it's rude to come out and say rather than keep quiet. I'm sure many people suspect because I've put weight on, but no-one has said anything. I tend to show early because I'm short and slim built so I can't hide it well. X

  • My mom is this way.  Not only about pregnancy announcements, but she has been pretty spot on with picking the sex, too.  It's crazy.
  • I'm actually really good at it too:) I told my friend she was pregnant and she didn't believe me so I bought her a pregnancy test and sure enough she was! Also a friend emailed me saying "hey" and I replied with " Your pregnant right?" And she was freaking out and was like " Goshh coukdnt I have just told you !!" But usually I'll go to a store or a public place and I get this energy pull from women and I know they're pregnant. It's really weird.

Ha! I can tell you one thing. No one's going to figure out I'm pregnant because of how DH is acting! He acts like nothing has changed.
  • My hair stylist swears she can tell really early on when her clients are pregnant because their lips are slightly plumper and their noses are a little bit swollen.

  • Some people are really perceptive/intuitive like that. I had a friend who, with DD, as soon as I told her, told me she had been having a feeling I was.

It's super rude for someone to call you out on it, though, before you tell them. Friend, family member, or coworker. I don't know why some people don't have filters.

Pregnancy glow, if you get it, is usually limited to 2nd Tri... though may carry over a bit to 3rd.
  • There is a woman at work who can tell when someone is (barely) pregnant. She'll say "oh, just watch, so and so is pregnant." Sure enough the woman announces eight weeks later. Like clockwork. It's weird. I have no idea how she can tell because these women don't look any different. I'm sure she knows I am. It's weird.

  • oh definitely! One of my good friend's mom knew before I even did. I posted on FB about how exhausted I was (and this was like, atleast 1.5wks before AF was due) and she commented saying, I bet you're pregnant! i laughed it off.
but sure enough about a week later I POAS and yep!

I totally agree with this.  I used to work retail and I never mentioned it with the pregnant women I was helping unless they brought it up first, not even the women who looked like they could be due any second.  It's their business, and it seems best to wait for them to bring it up if they want to talk about it.  (Babies, on the other hand, I complimented every time.)
  • The only glowing I did last time was green.  It's not looking much better this time either!
