If you take zofran please read...

Thos m/s is kicking my butt and I can't keep much down. I'm always feeling nauseous and starving at the same time so I'm thinking its time to call and ask my doctor for Zofran or something that will help me. I just had a couple questions for you momma's who are curently taking zofran. Does it really work? Does it make you feel completely better or just partially better? What are the side effects, if any? Thanks lovely ladies!

  • Zofran is a miracle drug! (for me at least)

I take it when I'm away from home and about to throw up (if I'm at home I just throw up) and it usually works almost instantly and makes me feel about 95% better. I find that it usually lasts about 2-4 hours. The number 1 side effect is constipation, so if you find yourself taking Zofran on a regular basis, I would recommend also taking a stool softener like Colace.

  • I love Zofran! I haven't needed it quite yet since I've been pregnant, but I keep one in my pocket at work just in case. No side effects for me personally in the past.

  • I've been taking it as needed. I was doing it more regular and the constipation got really bad. I'm surviving work/toddler because of it.

I still feel off, but can function with it. No rushing to throw up.

  • Doesn't really do much for me....reglan works better for me. They gave me that in the er after the Zofran wasn't doing helping.
  • Zofran works great for me! Works pretty quickly and the only side effect is constipation.

  • It worked however it then have me a huge migraine accompanied by worse nausea apparently headaches are a side effect as well (there are entire threads in forums devoted to it) but I think the great majority love it just something to be aware of. I wound up going with unisom + b6 but definitely get on something! I was losing weight because it was so bad...however my food aversion is not better and I've found that can be pretty bad for eating as well but not having as intense nausea is wonderful

  • How do you decide if you are at the point of needing Zofran? I only ask because I feel like I should be coping better with the MS and vomiting than I am.....I can't decide if I should cave in and ask for it or not. I am nauseous nearly all day and spend the first 4 to 5 hours of my day vomiting.

  • My midwife had me try Diclegis first, it's the only FDA approved specifically for pregnancy. They are hesitant to prescribe Zofran unless you absolutely cannot keep water down. Diclegis has been a god send. I'm still nauseous from time to time (usually around 10 am for an hour or two), but for the most part, I'm not throwing up for hours at a time which was my goal. I wanted to be able to stay at my job.

  • I love zofran. I've had 2 ER trips due to being dehydrated bc I can't keep anything down. They finally broke the cycle by zofran during the day and phinigraine at night (not a fan of phinigraine but had to do something ) they said if you can break the cycle it'll usually get better. I also found the pressure point bands helped me
  • It helps some, I'm still nauseous all day, but at least I'm not vomiting too, which means I can work.  I also take Unisom and B6 at night, and then zofran as needed, usually around 9-10am and on really really bad days again in the evening.

  • I went from can't even keep water down to being able to at least eat a little. I still felt slightly sick but wasn't borderline puking. My ms seems to have eased up and I'm down to only needing one or two a day. The worst side effects for me are that I'm extremely constipated (Colace hasn't even touched it!) and they make me drowsy.

Congrats to my GP Sister from another mister Bruinsbabe!!

  • So I got a prescription for zofran but am afraid of taking it. Instead, the other day my gas/bloating was so bad that I took a Gas-x thinking it would help the bloating. It did but it also took the nausea away. It was the weirdest most unexpected result. So I didn't take it the next day and back to nausea...I tried it again the day after and definitely felt less nauseous again. Very surprising.
  • I have taken it twice and was so constipated it almost wasn't worth taking because how sick to my stomach the constipation made me. I even took colace and ate things to help but the only thing that worked for me was milk since I have trouble with it so in that case it helped me go. When I did take it it worked right away and lasted 24-48 hours for me so I only took one at a time and like I said only took it twice.

  • With my first pregnancy I was too, "this is growing baby I don't want to take any medicine for fear of what might happen" and this pregnancy I have changed my tune!  I have severe m/s with this pregnancy which might be the difference too (throwing up all day, taking off work, not being able to take care of DD).  So I decided to take it.  It is AMAZING! I haven't thrown up yet. I do feel it wear off after about 4-5 hours though. I have to wait till 8 hours to take it. I take it 3 times a day.

side effect - MAJOR CONSTIPATION! Drink water, eat fiber

  • I take 1 4mg tab as soon as I wake up in the morning before I get out of bed. It makes the difference for me between vomiting every hour and not vomiting. I still feel nauseated though. But no vomiting. And I can keep water down and stay hydrated. Side effects: horrible constipation.
