BLW question - soup?

DD is 8 months, and we introduced solids at 6 months.  Her coordination is getting pretty good, although she still isn't eating much (which is fine with me).

Question - I made lentil soup for dinner tonight.  How do you handle soups when you are doing BLW?

Re: BLW question - soup?

  • Honestly, for a while I kind of strained out the liquids.

I do preloaded spoons, but soup is a hard one at first being so very liquidy.  Lentil soup is a good one for my method because there's so much good stuff in there!  And she can grab at the lentils/cooked veggies, or you can preload a spoon and see how she navigates it.

In a couple of months, when she's more adept with the spoon I'd strip her down and let her at it (preloaded or not - just make sure the soup is very lukewarm because it WILL get all over her).  By 12/13 months this is what we were doing.

  • We had vegetable soup today! I just scooped out big bits and put them on his tray. I like the idea of straining the soup too.
  • My aunt used to add croutons to soup for my little cousins.  They soak up all the liquid and make it a goopy mess that stays on spoons, or can be scooped up.  Maybe try that?
