Donor Egg transfers is it like a IUI procedure of and IVF procedure?

What is the protocol for Donor Egg transfers is it like an IUI? or an IVF procedure???

TTC since 2012

Dx : DOR

IUI #1 (Follistim switched over to Menopur injections) - BFN

Attempted IUI #2 (Menopur injections only cycle) better response on the Menopur then the Follistim combination treatment cycle however my cycle was still canceled due to my eggs not maturing and follicles not growing enough on a high dose of Menopur (Re said I could try a cycle of comid + ovidrel  for an IUI) for my second IUI( praying this works for us)

Clomid + Ovidrel protocol worked still a BFN as a result

Attempted cycle  Clomid  + Ovidrel protocol for IUI # 3 (Unable to do this cycle due to a cyst)

IUI # 3 Clomid+ Ovidrel protocol - BFP    Beta #1 752  Beta #2  1536    Beta #3 3797

EDD 10/27/14

Our sweet baby boy arrived on 9/2/14 TTC # 2 Conceived without help- June 2015 July 2015- Miscarriage ( blighted ovum)
March 2016 (ectopic pregnancy) :(

  • Depends on if your doing a fresh cycle or frozen. We froze all after our donor had her ET and waited to get me ready. But you can get ready while she's stimming and do a fresh after her ET. It's the same protocol but they may switch up meds depending on fresh or frozen.

We did fresh. It was just like an IUI except there was 2 people between my legs, my doc and the embryologist. They also had me lay there for quite a while after the transfer.

  • It's like IVF only your donor does the egg retrieval part and you do the embryo transfer.
TTC with DOR, low morphology, fertilization issues
    IVF#1 Oct 2009 (CCRM) - BFN
    IVF#2 March 2010 - Poor response/cancelled
    DE IVF#1 Aug 2010 - BFN
    DE IVF#2 Dec 2010 - Transferred 1, 2 frozen - BFP!
    TTC#2 FET Jan 2013 - Transferred 1 - BFP!

So basically the non donor part is like a Transfer for an IVF cycle? Done in an office not the operating room.

  • Yeah, more like an office.  At SG, the embryo transfers are done in rooms off the lab area.  It's a very easy procedure, though - no meds or sedation or anything.  They just transfer the embryo(s) through a catheter into your uterus.

Yeah I go to SG. I'm assuming when you say the rooms off the lab area your talking a room near where they do cyst aspirations and egg retrivals right?? not the rooms where they do your bloodwork and ultrasound monitoring appointments right?

Yes, it is called an embryo transfer because once the eggs are retrieved from the donor, your partner's sperm (or donor sperm) is used to fertilize the eggs in the lab.  Depending on the number of eggs retrieved and how they are progressing, most places will schedule a 3-day transfer or a 5-day transfer of the developing embryos.

FYI, the actual transfer procedure is easy peasy, very similar to an IUI, it's just that the catheter contains embryos (the fertilized eggs) and not sperm.  However, in some cases (like mine), the actual transfer is done in an OR (same room as the retrievals, only no anesthesia).  You still get to wear a gown and all (LOL), b/c they want to keep the environment as sterile as possible...the embryos are very delicate!

    HTH!

Me: AMA, DOR, undetectable AMH, carrier of SMA, MTHFR homozygous C677T, high cytokines, low IGg B cells, Factor XIII V34l mutation, High Anti-Phosphatidylethanolmine, borderline hypothyroid and mildly insulin resistant.

MH: No known issues, aside from MTHFR.

Recommendations from RI: LIT, Humira, IVIG, Lovenox, Baby Aspirin, Folic Acid, Low-dose synthroid and Metformin.

Currently taking:  Pre-Natal vitamins, Foltanx, Low-dose synthroid and Metformin.

When cycling also taking: Baby Aspirin, Lovenox, Humira and IVIG.

TTC since 7/11/09..with medical intervention starting in 2010, including 4 failed IVF's and 6 failed IUI's...only "success" was a chemical pregnancy in 11/2012 (credited to use of DE).

    FET #1 (11th cycle) on 8/23/13 = BFN.

FET #2 (12th cycle) Transfer of last two (day 6) donor egg blasts on 1/22/14 = BFP, EDD = 10/10/14 (please stick little BOY!)

Yes, I think it would be the egg retrieval rooms just off the lab not the more doctor's office type ones.
