makung my mattress like a crib?

Hi everyone, when I am with DS I nurse to sleep for naps on my mattress and stay there for the whole nap. I went back to work about six weeks ago and my mom and DH tried a lot of your suggestions you gave me in my "toddler naps" post. The only way they can get him to nap is strolling, but I don't think he is getting good quality sleep bc he is still cranky. I would like him to sleep on my mattress for naps either with them (my mom four days a week and DH once a week) or by himself. They follow the routine but still he thinks it is a joke and safely goes off the mattress. I'm wondering if we should block the sides of the mattress with something high that he couldn't climb over (he can climb over toddler bed rails). At night he sleeps in a crib so I feel like it would be like making my mattress enclosed like his crib? (He refuses to nap in there, he just cries and screams). Do you think making my mattress enclosed is a good or bad idea? If I do try it, do you have any ideas with what to use to block it? I have a pack and play on one side and a wall on the other but still have space that would need to be blocked.
Thanks!!!

  • Oops sorry for the spelling errors, I'm on my phone and can't find the edit function.

  • Can you put a mattress on the floor? Can someone lay with baby until he falls asleep?
  • Oh sorry that wasn't clear, the mattress is on the floor, but when someone other than me lays down with him he crawls off the mattress. He refuses to stay on the mattress unless I'm nursing him, that's why I'm wondering if blocking it all in would make it so he couldn't crawl off to go play. But I don't know what I could use to block it in all sides. ?
