We just got new neighbors about a week ago and I'm not sure whether we should talk to them about their dogs or not. We've introduced ourselves and DH helped them move some big furniture when they were unloading, but we don't really know them yet. They have three dogs and I guess DH was telling them how much DD likes dogs and found out that one is good with people, one is questionable, and the other is not good with strangers/kids.
So the issue is - they put their dogs on a line when they let them out. We don't have a fence in the backyard between our yards. The line allows the dogs to go 4-5 feet into our yard. I'm counting our shed as the edge of our backyard, not just making up an imaginary line. Earlier this week DD and I were playing outside when the dogs came out and they came running and barking toward DD. That was before I knew how long the line was so I ran and scooped DD up. Thankfully they couldn't get to her. I've also found poop on our side of the yard 3-4 times. Would it be annoying of us to ask them to either shorten the line for the dogs or pick up after the dogs? I've never had dogs so I don't know if people normally pick up after their pets when it's their own yard, but I don't want to be on poop patrol every time we go outside. And I certainly don't want DD to ever be in danger while we're outside. WWA12D?

Re: Dog etiquette question
I think I'll get DH to go talk to them, he usually comes across nicer than I do
