Hot flashes

So this week I have had two hot flash episodes where I actually almost passed out. Once in the shower and once in a store while shopping. I talked to my dr about it at my appt today and he said it's heat/low blood sugar. He told me to make sure I'm snacking between meals, eat before showering, and avoid getting overheated. Thought I would share these instructions in case anyone else in 3rd tri (or any tri for that matter) has had the same experience. I thought I was eating enough but I guess it's not just about how much you eat but also eating often enough so your blood sugar doesn't drop.

Aside from that, I officially moved to weekly monitoring today and they will do the first non stress test next week!! Ahhhh!!! Can't believe I'm so close!! I gained 3 lbs in the past 2 weeks and baby girl is feeling HEAVY!!

  • Thanks for the tips and glad you are okay and didn't pass out! What is your EDD? I'm excited for you!

  • That doesn't sound pleasant at all.  Congrats on entering the home stretch though!

  • I had hot flashes today as well, then followed by chills and a fever. I ate a small breakfast and took something for the fever. I think a combination of stuff just hit me.

I'm due November 22, and I'll be 34 weeks on Friday. I go twice a week for my non stress test. I hate going so often but they feel it's a necessity with my age and having hypertension. My belly is so big with the baby that I can barely walk at times so I know how you feel.

Isn't it just awful trying to move or get comfortable after you eat? I don't know about you but I just can't imagine getting any bigger at this point! And we're going to!!!

That would stink going in twice a week but I'd much rather be monitored than have them miss something. It's really hitting me that the end is so near...I can't believe we've made it this far!!

Edit: block quote fail. Too tired to fix it on mobile. Go me.

  • It is truly awful to move at times. And in bed, I literally have to get on my knees to turn from one side to the other. The leg cramps from the thigh to the hip on my left side is crazy. I'm just so ready to have her. She's going to be over 9lbs according to my ultrasounds.

I've also been having contractions. I had one at my non stress test, and it was painful, but my blood pressure stayed great, which was a good thing.

  • My Braxton Hicks are getting stronger and more frequent. As a matter of fact, I just had one that woke me up and it was the strongest one yet. Then when I was finally able to get back to sleep I dreamt I was going into labor, haha. And boy I know what you mean about maneuvering the bed flop! I cannot believe how much thought and effort goes into switching sides these days! I'm getting horrible rib pain along with the hip pain. I must turn over a million times a night. :(

  • Yes I turn more than I can count. I'm putting pillows under me, behind me, between my legs and arms just to get comfy. LOL!!! I get so frustrated but I think how it'll be worth it at the end. We don't have long. :)

  • I have been getting hot flashes for a while now. OB said it was hormones. I also have GD so I know that sweaty awfulness of low glucose feels different.

I am due Nov 21st and it just dawned on me today while at my OB office waiting to see the Dr that I only have 6 weeks give or take and I almost pooped my pants.  I have so much crap to do and so little time to do it in.  We just finished a HUGE addition and have been slowly getting the house put back in order.  I have furniture in the new baby's room but that is about it.  I need to get into my Mom's attic to collect my newborn clothes and get some of my stuff back for when this one arrives.

I hear you all about the sleeping through the night.  I am exhausted all the time due to such crappy sleep.  My arm falls asleep, my hip falls asleep and I flop like a flounder back and forth multiple times a night just to get comfy.  Oh and by the end of the day my left hip ACHES so badly and the only position that seems to stretch it and provide me some relief is when I stand like the Capt. Morgan Spiced Rum Pirate,  it's a great look

Here's to surviving the next few weeks.  For me they are flying far too quickly.
