Bathtime routine, no help?

If you bathe yours in the regular tub, what is your bath time routine for when you are solo?  One at a time, two at a time?  How do you get them to/from bath area and into pjs?

Re: Bathtime routine, no help?

  • I laid their towels and PJ's on the floor right next to the tub and transferred them into the tub so they could bathe together.  When they were done I just moved them each out onto their towels, dried them off and put them into pajamas.  Solo bath time went a lot smoother than I had anticipated.

How old are your kids? With my 18m olds I take everything but their diaper off in the living room and we walk to the bathroom together. I take one diaper off and get that kid in the water, then the next. When they're done I get one kid out and dry them. Then they play naked for a minute while I get the other kid out. We all walk to their room and get them dressed. We've had a few pee accidents but its been nbd.

  • Ours are still little, and we use the baby tub in the bath tub so one at a time.

While the tub is filling, I'll get one naked on the changing table. The other one chills in the crib/RNP w a paci and blanket if he's awake. Naked one gets a bath, towel is already in the bathroom. After he's done, I lay him in the crib in a towel usually on his tummy bc he likes it and repeat w the other one. I get the one I bathed first dressed first after bathing the second one.

One or both usually fuss/cry for a minute or two. The whole thing takes no more than 20 min.

  • I'm still getting this down, since I usually have my husband around to help, but generally speaking I let them crawl upstairs and corral them into the bathroom. Make sure to have everything prepped beforehand. I turn on the bath water while I lay out towels, toss the bath toys and bath wash in the water (along with a washcloth), and if I'm bathing by myself I set up a changing station on the bathroom floor with two clean diapers, lotion, and pajamas. Turn off the bath water and then herd them upstairs into the bathroom, close the door. Strip first baby (I think PP's suggestion of stripping down to diapers in the living room, then going upstairs together. I'll start doing that), drop him in the tub. Repeat with second baby. Washing them together is, for me, the easiest part. It's all the logistics surrounding it that are tough :) Lather up, rinse, repeat. I let them play in the tub for a few extra minutes, then grab a baby, wrap him in a towel to dry, then lay him down and get him dressed while keeping one eye on the baby still in the tub. Mine are old enough now that I don't worry about them tipping over or drowning while I'm in the room, and your two are the same age as mine. I could also get them both in just diapers and then let them crawl into the nursery (I have a baby gate at the top of the stairs, and close all the other doors) to finish dressing them. Otherwise the dressed baby usually gets into trouble in the bathroom while I'm dressing his brother.

  • Thanks everyone! I should have asked this earlier--last night was my first attempt bathing them alone.  At first I thought I'd do it one at a time, then thought, nah, I can handle them both.  Should have had a little more foresight...yeah, I was carrying two wet babies to their bedroom, trashing around out of their towels like two little fishies.

Just wanted to see what normal people would have done.  I think it'll be easier (in some ways!) when they can walk and do as PP suggested.  Next time, I'll have the 'changing station' set up in the bathroom!

They still scare me a little bit because they love to try to climb out of the tub.  Why!!

And Shaunah, happy birthday to your two!  They're too cute!
  • I do what Missa does for my guys, when they were younger, I put one in his crib while I bathed the other. Once they could sit unassisted with confidence I started bathing both together.

  • I bring a jump-a-roo in the bathroom with us. One is in there while I bathe and dress the other and then I switch them. That way they are both busy and don't mind the time waiting while the other is in the tub!

Thanks, lady! It's hard to believe we've come out on the "other side" and have 1 year olds, isn't it?!
