How many times are your LOs waking up at night. DS slept through the night starting at 6 weeks. DD is waking up 1-2 times a night. I am done with this lack of sleep and ready to sleep train, but am wondering if 1 time a night is stlll normal. edit: She eating about 28 oz of formula a day, plus 2 meals. She also naps fine.

Re: Night wake ups

  • You might want to try cutting down the size of the bottle and see how he reacts.  With my first son, we did it at about six months and cut the bottle down by an ounce every couple of days.  He didn't miss it and eventually when the bottle was down to two ounces, he just started sleeping through the wake up.  We are in the process of doing this with my second and so far, it is working well.

I'm glad I saw this today... what time is/was yours waking up?  Mine both go to bed around 7:30PM and for the last 2 months have been waking up at 4AM for a bottle.  They go right back to sleep and get up for the day around 7AM.  This sounds like it could work for us...
  • Exact same thing.  He goes down around 7 and would wake around 3, then go back down until 6 or 6:30.  Good luck!  I hope you have as much success with it as we did.
  • Thank you!
  • LO one wakes up normally twice and we stopped feeding her...she only needs her paci and goes right back to sleep.  Its been glorious this last week!  Hang in there!
  • Usually once to eat.
  • My 6.5 month old was getting up every 2-3 hrs to nurse up until a few weeks ago. Yikes, I know. It's slowly getting better. Hang in there. Every babe is so different.

This sounds like something that could work. I will try it.  I stopped BF partly because I was never quite sure that she was getting enough to eat, and her weight had dropped at her last few appointments.  I now FF and I really do not think she needs to eat as she is getting plenty during the day, I think it is just habit.

  • Every 2 hrs

    He's 5.5 months & EBF
  • DD is 6.5 months and gets up around 3 for a bottle. I tried cutting back the size gradually but it didn't work so well for us. She got really irritated and wouldn't go back to sleep after. I figure she still needs the bottle for now, especially since she goes to bed early. She normally goes down around 6, so her last meal is around 5. Oh well, maybe I will try again in a few weeks.
  • 6 months old and up once or twice to eat. Hegoes down for the night at 6:30 and is up sometime between 1:30 and 3:00 and then again 3 hours later between 4 and 6. He goes back to sleep after eating both times and is usually up for the day around 7.
My 1st was sleeping 6:30-6:30 with no wake ups at this point and I am doing the exact same thing this time around with different results.
  • You are lucky for only 1-2 wakeups.  We used to have that, then for some reason she reverted to more wake ups.  I used to BF and switched to FF because I wasn't sure she was getting enough.. but that didn't help.  I think that they just go through lots of different sleep stages though, constant change!  8 months now and sleeping worse than ever.
  • DS didn't sleep thru the night till about 1 year.  DD is 7 months and 2 times is a good night.  Every baby is different.

  • Breastfed here and at 7 months she is up every 2hrs...on the dot.  Takes a full feed and passes out again.  Lately she sleeps from about 8pm until 9am.  We had a brief period where she ate every 3hr during day and every 4hr overnight (was glorious).  Then she went back to her every 2hrs round the clock schedule that she's had from the start.  She feeds in 4-6min so I don't complain too much.

She is innately scheduled like her daddy (an engineer).  In the night I can give her a soother and she goes back to sleep but wakes 20-30min later hungry.  I get more sleep by just feeding her and going back to sleep for 2hrs till next feed.

  • My baby is EBF. He slept through the night for over two months but is now back to waking up. He usually just wakes up once in the MOTN, but occasionally we will have a rough night and he will be up 3 or 4 times he always eats when he has his one wakeup, and what he eats seems like a full feeding, so I figure he's actually hungry.

  • Thank you for the all the suggestions.  DD was BF, but I switched to formula partly because I wasn't sure if she was getting enough to eat during the day.  Even with the formula, she was still crying when I knew she had eaten enough.  I did one night of CIO and she has slept through the night since.
