now I'm looking for monitor recommendations...

we have a video monitor that was gifted to us, but I HATE it. It is basically just a camera and it works off of WiFi so you can pull up the video on your phone or computer. Sounds lovely, but it's a pain - always disconnecting, and annoying to have to have my phone on that all evening (we don't have a tablet, and only a desktop computer right now, no laptop). Anyway, DD has been sleeping in our room, but we are going to move her into her crib soon, but I'd like to have a better monitor first. I think I want a video one, but one that has a separate screen, not that has to go through my phone. Since I'm sure many of you have been using one for 6ish months, just curious which one you have and if you recommend it??

We have the summer infant baby touch one. It's fine....personalyl i would be fine with a cheaper one. And i DO like the monitor, just because I keep the noise pretty turned down at night but I can peek in on her. The only thing i don't like on there is the light, since sometimes it will turn on and wake her up (LAME)

And really like it. It's probably overkill now, but when DS came home from the NICU, he was on a monitor and the option to have a movement "detector" saved us a bit of stress. We only use the video part now, but it's been great.

thanks for the recs!

so here's a question...if your LO doesn't sleep in your room, do you have the monitor on all night, and do you look at it?

DD is in our room still so the only time we use the (crappy) monitor that we have is the time between her going to bed and us going to bed when we're downstairs. We plan to move her to her room soon, and this is my main reason for wanting a better monitor. DH and my dad keep telling me that I'm wasting my money on a video monitor, though, and I'll be able to hear her if she needs me in the night. But for me, having had her right next to me for 6 months and being able to look into her PNP and see her any time I wake up, I don't think I will be able to sleep without being able to look over and see her.....

I keep the monitor on all night with the sound turned off since she is in the room next to us. I just lay the video screen face down so that it isn't so bright. Any time I want to check on her I just flip it up and take a peak. This has worked well for me. And I highly recommend a video monitor if you will be moving her to her own room. The peace of mind you get by seeing her whenever you want is totally worth it!
