  Why the hell would your FI keep his FB friends list private from you? Can you not ask him if he is friends with her?
  
  I'm pretty sure when you go to her page if you are both friends with FI it would show up in mutual friends.

  I agree with PP that she would show up in the mutual friends.

  He can set his friends private to certain people or groups of people but I don't think that effects mutual friends unless you are blocked from viewing her profile.

  I'm friends with a woman and her ex H. When I click on his page it only shows my husband as a mutual friend. It's strange because I .know they are friends and I'm both of their friends. I'm with the other's though...just ask! If he doesn't give you a straight answer he is not a good guy.

  If sb wants to be friends with sb and they don't want other friends to know about it, they can both create a completely separate profile where they can befriend each other and keep their group and conversations private. I know my niece has like 4 different profiles. You learn from teens.

  My friend's list is private but my DH had my password before we were married. Hell... my notifications went to his phone as well as mine. lol. I set it up on his phone and he begged me to log off bc it annoyed him badly.

  Diamonds you should be able to see his mutual friends. Why don't you just ask him? DH & I know one another's passwords to everything. I don't have them all memorized, but if I'm trying to log onto something for any reason (i.e. an email account to get a coupon) then I just ask him.

  Well, obviously, her spidey sense is up....and if she thinks he may be hiding something, instead of directly asking him, she wants some concrete info she can go off of before she does ask him.

  After some investigating it appears that if two people have their list private then they will not show as a mutual friend.  I swear.  I long for the days when FB did not exist.  I envy people who have managed to stay off.  Surprisingly I know several people not on there.
