Babies: 0 - 3 Months

When did baby start sleeping in crib??

Our little guy will be a month old Friday. He was a premie which made me even more protective I think lol! He's been sleeping in a rock and play by our bed since he came home about a week after he was born. I don't go back to work until Dec 9th but I am just trying to get an idea of when we should start putting him in his crib to sleep??? I don't want to over due the sleeping in our room but I don't feel at this point I have I just wanted to get a jump start on this topic :) thanks!

  • I go back to work the same week as you. Lo will be 7 weeks this week. I plan to start transitioning her to her crib the end of this month. She will just over 2 months at this point. I think you can do it when you're comfortable. Some people start their babies in the crib from the get go. Do what works for you!

  • My DD is 12 weeks on Friday and still sleeps in her swing. Right now, we're weaning her off the swaddle (she can get out of it, can roll over, etc) and then we'll wean her off the swing. She's napped a few times in the crib (and even soothed herself to sleep in there for a nap on Saturday!). Don't stress about it too much- you can't spoil a newborn.

  • Purely up to you and your child. Some kiddos do well with slow, easy transitions, some can just do it cold turkey. I'm like a PP-our DD has been in her crib as soon as we got back from the hospital

  • Well I laid him in there for a nap after his 9 o'clock feeding (he's still on a schedule until his drs appt next week) it didn't phase him one bit. In fact he hasn't made a peep but of course I've checked on him at least 5x's I think this is going to be harder on me :(

With DS it was definitely harder on us than him. It was so weird to not hear him. DD is now a month old and still in a bassinet by our bed. I asked DH yesterday if we're ready to put her in the crib yet and he said "No! Not yet!" So I guess she's here for a few more weeks.

  • I think I'm just gonna slowly start with naps first haha!!! He's completely good with it but I'm not lol I had to clean the house just so I wouldn't go stand by the crib and watch him lol!!!!
  • We waited until the first time DS rolled onto his side.  That same day we moved him to his crib.  It wasn't easy and resulted in him waking up every 1.5-2 hours for the first few nights, but then he got used to it and he seems to sleep much more comfortably in the crib than he ever did in the RNP or bassinet.
  • Do you have a pnp also? If you don't want baby out of your room yet, maybe first try transitioning to pnp in your room ( so baby gets used to laying flat) then move to crib when you are ready
  • LO is almost 3 months, and we are just now starting to transition to his crib. FTM here, so i do blame myself for not starting sooner. I just wanted him to be close as long as possible. DH layed him down for a nap in his crib and he slept for about 45 minutes and then woke up screaming. Needless to say, we are trying to have him nap in there as much as we can for now until he is used to it :)

  • Our LO was in his crib by 5-6 weeks. It took a few nights before he was comfortable sleeping in such a big space but we made sure to swaddle him and then tuck extra receiving blankets around his legs and feet to make him feel more held in. It also helped to leave one of my shirts in his crib to lay on.

  • DS is 7 weeks old and still sleeps in a cradle next to our bed. He is a LOUD sleeper so I am ready for him to go into his own room, but he is EBF and still waking every 2-3 hours so I won't move him until he is sleeping longer stretches.
  • With DS1 we started him in the crib at 12 weeks and will most likely do the same with this one.  He is currently in a bassinet.

  • We had a cradle by my bedside, and I moved both of my babies into the crib around 3 months.
  • DD1 was 9 months old when she started sleeping in her crib at night.

DD2 has yet to do so.

I don't remember when DD1 started napping in her crib; DD2 has only on a couple of occasions.

  • Jacob slept in his crib in his room the first night he was home and that hasn't changed.
  • We just started LO in his crib at 7 weeks.  He was great and had no problems with the switch.  We kept the bedtime routine the same, just put him to bed in his room instead of ours.  It was super hard on me though!  It was super nice to have him in our room if he cried, but the few extra moments to get to his room give him enough time to get back to sleep on his own most of the time.  So I think we will both get better sleep in the long run.  I miss having him right by me though!
  • 8 weeks for us.
  • Started DD in pnp at 8 weeks. She's 13 weeks now and I we have no plans on moving her to a crib for the next 3 months.

  • LO occasionally slept in her crib the first week, but didn't start sleeping there nightly until week three. We kept our other two kids in our room for a few months, but this LO seemed to prefer her crib from the beginning. Plus, I think we are a lot more relaxed as parents than we used to be.

  • She started the day we brought her home, 2 days old. We would have used the pnp but our son was using it at grandmas house for a few days so we decided to just use the crib as opposed to buying something else
  • Just started 3 nights ago with our LO. He is 12 weeks today. I have to say he sleeps so much better in his crib in his own room.
