Does losing your mucus plug mean anything??

in 3rd Trimester

I lost mine on Monday, and am 1 cm dilated.  This is my second baby - never lost it with my first (who was 13 days late!).  Today I am 38 weeks.

I've heard from some friends and a nurse that it usually means the baby is coming within a week.  My OB said it didn't mean anything.

 

Thoughts?

    It doesn't mean much. I never lost mine until I was being induced in the hospital at 42wks, but I have friends who lost there a couple times before going into labor. One friend lost hers around 36/37wks and then two more times after that before she delivered a day after her due date. That being said I also know friends who lost theirs and went into labor a day or two later, so really anything is possible. The joys of waiting lol. Sorry I wasn't more help

    No, it doesn't mean anything. You can lose your mucus plug and it can regenerate also or you could be losing just pieces of it....doesn't neccesarily mean labor is close.

    Doesn't really mean anything. Your mucus plug can "re-grow." And you could be overdue again.

    Nope. You can loose it up to 6 weeks in advance...maybe 4 in your case ;)

    It means labor is a few hours to a few weeks away. Yay!! :)

    With DS1 I lost mine and then my water broke about 3 days later.

    DS2 mine came out when I was already in labor.

    It basically means that your cervix is loosening (enough for it to come out) but labor could still be hours, days or weeks away.
