My baby doesn't sleep :(

She sleeps 10 minutes at a time during the day.. And come night time she fights it... I've been awake far too long.. It's 5am here and I need some tips or advice or something!! Does anyone resort to car rides in the middle of the night?

Re: My baby doesn't sleep :(

  • I've tried her swing she sits in it got 5 minutes before she starts crying.. Usually she falls asleep while nursing her but when her eyes start to close at night she starts to cry and fuss! Just when I think I have her almost asleep she's awake and not happy.

Lurking. In the beginning we would have to have to resort to chest sleeping. Baby was to new to the world not to be heavily comforted. She is 9 weeks now and sleeps greatly in her bassinet. I agree with the above. The white noise apps would work like a charm every time. And now we do a tight swaddle and she sleeps for hours! GL!

  • Where is baby sleeping? Will she sleep in your chest? If she will, keep her there until her arm drops when you lift it. You may be moving her during REM.

  • The arm trick is a great idea!
  • Make sure she gets outside for a little while each day. My pedi told me this helps baby's brain start to differentiate day vs night. We started taking about an hour walk each day, plus added in a white noise app, using the 5 s's, and not letting her sleep for long stretches after 6 pm until we go to bed. Other tips are to keep the room dark at night even during diapers, and don't talk to baby much at night so she doesn't get stimulated. I hope you can find something that works for you.

  • My LO was the same way... He is 5 weeks and literally the last week he started napping longer. Still max like an hr on random awesome days.... 2. But it might be something they just gotta figure out. :/
    Good luck!!
  • Thanks so much for the tips definitely gonna try something new, and bringing her out during the day is something I don't do so I'm gonna start taking some walks in the day. She doesn't like being swaddled she always kicks so much until she's free and seems more content like that. Even car rides at 6am did not work for us surprisingly!! I was at a loss last night, she sleeps wayyyy better during the day.
  • If all else fails, you can start sleeping in the day too. Sleep when baby sleeps.
  • I can attest to the success of taking my lo out during the day to help him sleep at night!also, have you tried wearing her in a sling or wrap? That is where my baby naps sometimes.
  • We have used the car! Two days ago my h and I left at 2:30am with a fussy wide awake baby and returned at 3:00 am with a sound asleep one. :) we do the other stuff mentioned here too, although we struggle with no long naps after 6. It's so hard to wake a happily sleeping baby! My guy is 2 and a half weeks. Good luck!
  • I downloaded a white noise machine on my phone, works like a charm during those fussy nights!!!

  • I second the white noise! I downloaded the songza app that was mentioned in a previous post. The tropical ocean station puts my LO to sleep when he is fussy. Using it right now ;)
