Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Feeding

Hello, my little one is almost 5 weeks old. He began eating up to 4 oz after a transition from similac advanced to similac sensitive this past weekend. Today he has been eating only about 2 oz and has spit up a couple of times. Is this normal? He was consistent before today.

Re: Feeding

  • How much does he weigh? Wondering if he was going through a growth spurt when taking 4 oz? My lo is 12 weeks and just started taking 4oz at a few feelings most of the time it's still 3

  • I have found that how many ounces taken in at a certain age really varies from baby to baby. 4 ounces every feeding for 5 weeks does seem like a lot, but you never know. I don't think there is a set amount that all babies should have. It just depends on how they are tolerating it I guess. My son is 11 weeks and takes anywhere from 3-5 ounces each feeding.

As long as you are getting enough wet diapers and a poop or so, I wouldn't be too concerned. But of course call the doctor if you are!

  • My 4 wk old takes 3.5-4 oz every feeding. She eats every 2-3 hrs during the day and every 3.5-5 hrs through the night. Like pp said it does vary with each baby.

  • Thank you all so much. I guess you are all right, he is a little over 8 lbs and six weeks today. It varies between 2-4 oz every 3-4 hours. Wet diapers and poops are good and sleeping at night is getting a little longer....last night he slept for 5 hours. Not too bad.
