Any baby/children's books are good to read to the baby. We read to my belly every night before we go to sleep. If you know a teacher, use their work/ID badge at Barnes and Noble. You will get 20% off all children's books because they are considered "classroom use". If you order from scholastic.com, there is no tax and free shipping. Some of my favorite books are Pat the Bunny, Goodnight Moon, Clifford, Guess How Much I Love You, Where the Wild Things Are, Dr. Suess, and Little Critters by Mercer Mayer.
@MadApple Right, I keep doing that with her name for some reason. I blame pregnancy brain. Thanks.
Reading books is sometimes a bit easier for some of us who feel a bit weird talking to baby. And I think it helps hubby as well. I actually enjoy the Boynton books myself; they're pretty funny.
My husband has started reading fantasy novels and even the stats for his Warhammer game out loud for the baby before bed. He's always reading that before bed anyway, but when I told him baby might be able to hear his voice now, he just started doing it out loud. It's freaking adorable.
We're totally bringing a nerd baby into this world.
I know they say it's really the last trimester that would count if any. That being said I never "read" in utero, maybe talked a couple times and DD loves books and her vocabulary not only impresses me it impressed her pedi that she made a note of it in her records.
I guess me reading to DD will cover this pregnancy though.
I'm pretty sure I'll be sick to death of baby books once she gets here - going to stick to reading what I want to read until she's old enough to look at a book/understand anything I'm saying, personally

@Kacie I am almost AS excited about the new Outlander book coming out in March as I am excited about this baby coming in March
From all the descriptions of what voices sounds like to a baby in utero (vacuum anyone??) they can't hear actual words. They can hear mom's voice best, but it's the intonations and sound in general. You could be saying anything - no need to burn on on kid books before the baby is even here!
We've read a few books to them - Right now I know they can only her my voice. I've read mostly Dr. Seuss or Mercer Meyer books?
ALSO - I have a friend who delivered her twin girls prematurely and she always read "Where the Wild Things Are" to her belly. There is a place where they "snarled and gnashed their teeth" and my friend always was animated with it when she read it. Every time she read it to them in the NICU they would make "faces" when she got to that part She said she tested it several times to make sure it wasn't coincidence - and each time they'd make little faces :x

The real test is to see if reading the grocery receipt in her animated voice prompts them to make faces. I know people want to believe their spawn is some kind of super intelligent being but the truth is they just respond to your tone - the words just don't matter.

That's true ... but I'd rather read a book than the grocery receipt
