Can you imagine being pregnant over 20 times?

I just saw this article about the Duggars wanting to try for baby number 20! I could not imagine being pregnant that many times.

  • That's a total 15 years of her adult life without a cocktail. No thanks! Lol

    that's possible. I'm almost 8 years in
    but pregnant? HELL NO
she's miscarried several times too (and also has a few sets of twins)

  • Isn't she only in her earlyish 40s? She's spent more of her adult life pregnant than not. It's probably just the norm for her.
However, for me, no thanks. I don't do pregnancy very well. Also, they are crazycakes.
  • I know several larger families and they are very loving and happy. My one set of grandparents had 13 children, the other set 3 (but very spaced out - my grandfather was 50 and my grandmother was 40 when the third/last child was born).

I have one sibling, as does DH. We're undecided on having a third. My best friend is the youngest of 4 and wants at least 4 children. Another friend is one and done. Yet another is pregnant with their third and the oldest just turned 3 a couple months ago.

    To each their own.

  • I'm not saying they should or shouldn't have more children. They are competent adults who have the right to make their own decisions even if others think they are poor decisions. A previous post mentioned large families and how much/little attention they get, etc. I think some people judge to soon based on an assumption that parents, like the Duggars, can't provide that many children with the love/nurture that they need.

The article said they have thought about adoption. I kind of hope they go in that direction.

  • they wanna squeeze as many cult members out as possible.

  • It's been a long time, but I used to watch 19 Kids and Counting and I remember an episode after they miscarried (two in a row, I think). They kept claiming they wanted to have as many as the Lord would let them, yet she was taking hormone injections to help conceive. I don't get it, personally. Of course they can do whatever they want, but I thought that seemed like a terrible thing to put yourself through.

  • I don't think she is raising a cult. She is not asking anybody else to change their beliefs and start popping out 20 kids. She is just doing what she believes, even if it is unpopular.

Now no way in hell would I want 20 kids. I used to want 5. Now I'm reconsidering even wanting 2...and Alice is the easiest baby God ever made. LOL

They're part of the Quiverfull movement which is often acknowledged as a legit cult.

And they treat their kids like cult members- no tv, no outside education, no Facebook, etc. Ironic since they're on tv. They exist solely in the isolated home.

  • By who? I have never heard it referred to as a cult.

  • I like the Duggars and I have been watching their show for years. I like their morals and outlook on life. They may not have a television however they aren't completely sheltered, they are very well traveled and the kids have been shown and experienced other cultures all over the world. As far as more kids goes I really don't think they should have any more since Michelle was told not to.

  • i feel like being pregnant that many times for that length of time from my life would make me just a baby making machine.  i already feel like i give my one kid everything i have. with 20 i feel like i might not have any time for myself whatsover for most of my life. and i'm far too selfish for that.
that's the whole point of the religion. women are subservient to their husband and are there to produce children. He even dictates her hair cut. Have you seen her hair? This is why you should never have a stylist named Jim Bob. Oh they also hate the gays and whore their kids out on TV

oh she doesn't raise all the kids btw.
    they have the buddy system...
    out of Michelle's mouth:
This house would not work if we didn’t have the buddy system. The older children mentor the younger ones. They help them with their little phonics lessons and games during the day, help them practice their music lessons. They will play with them or help them pick out the color of their outfit that they want to wear that day, and just all of those types of things.

and read up on their system of "blanket training" which I now feel sick about.

I can't believe that anyone would want to use "blanket training"! How horrible for the baby! I feel sick as well, poor things.

  • This is from the article that @ladydixneuf posted:

"The Duggars have stated that they use blanket training. What they do is place a baby on a blanket and tell the baby not to get off. If the baby crawls off, he or she is spanked on the leg, told “no,” and placed back on the blanket. If you do this for long enough, the baby will learn to stay on the blanket, and then you can safely leave the baby there while you cook lunch or school the older ones. This all seems counter to the nature of a naturally curious baby."

  • I have no idea
It's good for the girl babies bc they learn subservience to their husbands. It's not like they're allowed to go to college or choose who they date anyway.

  • read this while you hit your 4 month old:

they also went to bat for chick fil a and campainged for rick santorum.

  • Holy shit, I had no idea they did 'blanket training'!! That's messed up in so many ways! It almost brings me to tears thinking of an infant being punished :(
