Anyone find the secret relief to constipation?

Wow. I've never had this problem in my life! 4 days without going and horrible stomach pain. And we won't get into the bathroom issues trying to go this morning. I felt helpless and was balling it hurt so bad. So has anyone found anything that works wonders yet? I will try anything at this point!

  • Prune juice or grapes works for me!
  • I posted about this the other day... While sitting on the toilet with no hope. It sucks, I feel your pain. Prune juice, warm water, extra water, and fiber fruits were a big help!!!

A friend also suggested vasoline (and cheap one-use gloves) to help with the impacted bit at the beginning.

    Good luck!!!

  • I used to rely on really rich Godiva ice cream but they don't make it anymore and least that i can find in s. texas. Maybe if you can stomach a high fat rich meal it'll help like honey said. Try like roast duck or greasy ribs/BBQ. I'm in the same boat but I've always had this problem so nothing usual here.
  • Thanks ladies I think I'm gonna go buy all of that! Tmi but I tried the vasoline and glove thing and it worked! Omg seriously yes like I was scared to look in the toilet after that! Lol wow I feel ten times better but I'm headed to the store for prune juice this is ridiculous!
  • Lots of water, produce, and high fiber cereal about every day :)
  • I take psyllium caplets, 6 in the morning and 6 at night. Initially, I was just taking 5 once a day, but after upping the dose, I'm able to go twice a day, very normal.

  • I took at least one Senokot-S tablet every day for the last 22 weeks of my first pregnancy.

I'm okay so far this time, but I'm also eating a lot more veggies and fruit than I did last time, and drinking more water. Stone fruits are the most helpful (peaches, plums/prunes, cherries, etc.), as are pears. A couple of handfuls of raisins help too. Same idea as prunes.

Also, if you're desperate, a cup of regular caffeinated coffee can be a miracle worker. I always have to go within 30 minutes of my morning cup, like clockwork.

  • I was 9 days without going... My OB said to use miralax. I took it for 3 days and nothin... She said the problem was that the blockage was on the bottom and anything taken orally won't reach that, so then she suggested a glycerine suppository. I tired that (wasn't as bad as I thought it would be) and that worked almost instantly.
If you're tired of waiting and want relief NOW I would suggest the glycerine supposity. They are totally safe- if you're worried just get the pediatric one it should do the trick!
I am now taking a generic stool softener and fiber supplements and eating dried prunes (I can't handle the juice..ew!) and apricots to stay of top of it.
Also make sure you are drinking TONS of water

  • Drink more water than you ever have! And make berry smoothies.Berries are good sources of fiber,so are pears. And adding some benefiber doesn't hurt:)
  • Benefiber chewables.

  • My prenatals (citra natal assure) have stool softener. I love them!!
Call your Dr. See if he'll write you a script.
  • Apples work best for me.
  • For me it takes a combo of Colace (6 per day), four liters of water a day, and four fiber gummies a day. It's quite the regimen. Doing all that and I still only go once or twice a week. :(

  • I've tried everything...the only thing that works is prune juice. Seriously, one glass every night and you'll never be constipated again.

  • Cbrust:
That was the problem this morning! It was at the bottom and nothing helped. Now I'm having the opposite problem all day! Of course right. Ugh...
  • Chia seeds! You know, ch-ch-ch-chia! Every morning I mash up a banana, add about a half cup of old fashioned oats and a couple spoonfuls of chia, and let it soak in almond milk for half an hour or so. The chia gets puffy and sort of like tapioca. I love it and it makes me poop like a champion. Oh, and it's a good source of omega 3s and tons of other good stuff.

  • Excercise is keeping me going #2 (if u can call the hard little unsatisfactory things that, sorry if it's TMI). I eat a lot of fiber and have also tried to introduce prune juice and prunes into my diet to no avail. My doctor told me to take Mirilax and I haven't started yet. However, last night I was literally having the worst stomach pains of my life. I was hunched over and crying in so much pain. My DH ran out at 12a and bought Mirilax. While he was gone I had terrible diarrhea and then felt better. Which is ok becuz Mirilax takes about 1-3 days to start working. *sigh* the joys of the pregnant digestive tract. Needless to say I will start Mirilax tonight in hopes of some normalcy.
  • Prune juice and Metamucil works wonders!!
  • Warm pasteurized apple cider!
  • Good prenatals will keep you regular the whole time!!! Never constipated with 1st baby and now realized once I ran out how much they helped keep things regular! Rainbow light and garden of life prenatals are both amazing!
  • Try taking the VitaFusion fiber/calcium gummy. I'm normally constipated not being pregnant, I have been fine since taking these (well a little bit too regular at times, but that's because I have a complicated colon lol) Plus they are yummy.
  • Lots of water
  • Exercise, drinking tons of water and ivd been eating raisin ban cereal too! Also taking a probiotic supplement to get some healthy bacteria in your gut
