What state should a public unisex bathroom user leave the seat after use?

My in-laws are visiting right now and while they're lovely people, they always leave the lid to the toilet open. I would much rather have it closed so that DD isn't tempted to throw things into it and dogs are never tempted to drink out of it.

I say leave it how you found it. It takes just as much effort to put it up as it does to put it down.

Every place we've lived has had a bathroom door that when open has the toilet directly behind it. Since we hang towels on the hook on the back of the door, we always have lid closed, otherwise if it fell it would end up in the toilet.

In public restrooms I leave the seat however it would require the least amount of touching on my part, basically however I found it.

I think a toilet seat up is gross. I think the lid and everything should be closed at all times. My dh thinks I'm weird.

The seat should be down and the lid should be down. If you don't close the lid before you flush, little bits of urine and feces can be swished into the air. Yuck!

The seat and the lid should be down - at least that's how it goes in our house. We have a cat who loves to jump on the toilet, he's not going to check to make sure the lid is down before he jumps.
