If you do BLW

GIve me ideas for what you have fed LO? we did not do BLW and have done mostly purees or mashed up avocado/bananas. The last 2 weeks i started pastina but want to start giving DS more foods, esp meats and dont want to do purees. Is anyone being cautious with allergies or are you introducing everything right now (besides the normal--nuts/honey).

Re: If you do BLW

  • We don't do nuts/honey, but she is 7 months and BF plus solids.  I feed her soft solids like most beans, salmon/tuna (they are easily mashed), potatoes, egg noodles and pastas cooked till very soft.  For teething, (she has no teeth yet) I let her chew on a cold apple slice.  She can't break any off yet, and she loves it!  Or a cold carrot.  She will chew on a long slice of thick steak, but can't break it off yet (which is the only reason I let her chew it haha).  Don't know if any of that helps!

  • LO really likes pulled meats - I put them in the slow cooker and then pull them apart and plop a pile in front of her. We also do thinly sliced "sticks" of fruits and veggies and bread, broccoli crowns, beans... basically whatever we are going to have for dinner. I usually also do a puree, but that's because LO seems to sleep a little better if she eats a good amount at dinner.
So broccoli crowns she can chew ok? And do you mash up beans or no?

  • Like PP, we are doing solids plus BF. For veg, LO eats baked sweet potatoes and cauliflower, two favorites, and steamed carrot sticks are also good. She has a hard time picking up avocado so I've not gone back to that recently (it sort of sticks to the high chair tray). She likes cold cucumber slices, which I seed and give her with the skin on. We recently started plain YoBaby yogurt; I put it on the spoon and she grabs the spoon to put it in/near her mouth. She eats a ton of fruit: peaches, pears, watermelon, plums, mango, nectarines. She didn't like steamed green beans at all and had a skin rash from banana, so we're staying away from that for a while. I haven't given her any meat yet but will probably start with chicken.

  • I feed LO whatever we have for dinner, but prepared specifically for him, mostly just steamed w/o salt, or I cook all together, take out his dinner portion, add then add salt for us
  • I do a combination of table foods and purees. I just give her a bunch of things to try out, and I kind of build on what we've done so she doesn't get more than one new food at a time. Last night we went to a buffet and I grabbed cucumbers, orange slices, melon pieces, a bread roll, and green beans to put on her tray. She hadn't had oranges or melon before, so that was two new foods at once.

  • Raw cucumber is a fan favourite here. He also loves pears, peaches and plums... All raw. I give wedges for all those. Breakfast we do egg yolk, fruit and toast fingers or oatmeal fingers. He also likes rice cakes (instead of baby mummums). He loves chicken, pork and steak. I just give him big strips of meat and he's getting pretty good at chewing chicken now (no teeth). You can try a asparagus, tomatoes, potato, carrots, sweet potato, zucchini...the list is really endless.

Same here.  I really just try to give him what we are eating but in sizes he can handle

  • What size pieces are we talking about here? I am not an overly-cautious mom but the thought of choking freaks me out and I am so scared to try non-purees!
