Hi, I am 6 weeks pregnant and my dr said to not use any hair dye or nail polish unless its OPI. My roots are so bad. Do you have any suggestions on what I could use to cover the grays? Thanks.
Interesting. I had my hair dyed twice last pregnancy. Other than DD's third arm, everything is fine.
:P
Honestly, tho, I would listen to your doctor. Mine said it was fine so I went for it. They are the professionals.
I just bought Scotch Naturals polish and polish remover online! There are three chemicals they want you to avoid that are commonly found in most nail polish products, that this brand has a good reputation for excluding.
He said its the only one that doesnt have certain ingredients in it that could possibly lead to autism. I have to ask him at my next appt what the ingredients are. Now I am just freaked out and dont want to do anything, at least not until after my first trimester.
Yeah my hair is killing me- dont feel like myself. Congrats on getting married. When is the date. My husband and I will be married 1 year on Nov. 4th. .
I don't understand the whole hair dye thing. I've gotten my hair dyed several times during my pregnancy. I googled it and there is nothing proven that says you can't use hair dye. You don't Injest it or anything. My hair dresser (my friend) was pregnant at the same time as me while she was dying people's hair several nights a week. I can see that you cannot do certain things. Like sit in a hot tub it's too hot for the baby. Or eat sushi bc of the raw meat. But come on hair dye! I have to walk around fat and have roots? No way!
Also, while I would visit my friend and get my hair done thru my first 2 pregnancies. I have seen lots of pregnant clients in her chair I guess you just have to do what seems right to you.
I am 6 weeks and got my roots touched up yesterday. I am getting married next weekend and refused to walk down the aisle like that lol. I was concerned about getting it done but spoke to my stylets prior to it and she is 8 months pregnant and she said the aveda products are very natural and completely harmless. She said she is around it all day and has been dying her own hair since she was 4 weeks. My sister also dyed her hair during both pregnancies and now has two healthy boys.
I've heard it's OK and I've heard it's safer to avoid. The places I read it was OK said it was fine after 1st tri. Try a vegetable dye, or I also heard Aveda is the safest with less chemicals. I choose not to dye, but that's just me. And I had a lot of pedicures in third tri with my daughter, so I hope the nail polish thing isn't a problem!
The dye shouldn't be transferring through your scalp anyways... I just got mine dyed yesterday. Last pregnancy I had highlights and figured foils were safer but I asked about it again and my hair stylist said that hair dye doesn't get into your blood stream so it's fine... Unless you eat it Haha. I've never heard about the nail polish thing. If you're worried, avoid the stuff, but I don't and I have a beautiful, perfect 8 month old baby

Your doc sounds overly cautious. Nail polish doesn't even touch your skin but if you're worried soya polish also is good and touts itself as being pregnancy safe. As far as hair dye... I did that with my daughter and she's fine. in fact I colored my hair the day after I found out this time. But I really am not a worrier and don't think something I do occasionally is going to cause autism any more than I believe that vaccines cause autism and Jenny mccarthy's son was cured of autism... I'm off to eat some unheated lunch meat and I'll wash that down with a red bull
Nail polish does NOT lead to autism. That's the biggest load of bull I've ever heard. The biggest worry would be breathing in the fumes, so just crack a window! Even then, the fumes cannot cause autism. Your doctor makes me really freaking angry. There have been no studies to even begin to link this, it is a half-formed theory because parents want answers. You can paint your nails, you can get your roots touched up. If nervous, so for the all natural. If nail polish and hair dye caused autism, the 50s would have turned out a lot of it.
Honestly ur dr makes me angry too. There are no studies supporting what he is saying. That's reckless to even say!!! I always dyed my hair while pregnant

@stch25 - Nov 4 is our anniversary too! It will be 2 years!
Thank you for all the insight. My dr is definitely overprotective. I just want to be safe. I am totally going to dye my hair soon. . Oh and get a pedi!! Aaaahh!
