I was just reading about how the WIC program in my state will be affected by the government shutdown. My state refuses to supplement the program with it's own money so WIC payments and vouchers have been suspended. The other day I received a box from Enfamil that had two 8oz samples of formula in it. As I will be breastfeeding and am also able to afford formula if for some reason I am not able to breastfeed DS2 this time around, I thought it would be a great idea to donate it to a local food bank for those in need. According to the article the WIC office has been telling mothers to head to the food bank to get formula and food for themselves and their children.
I would like to encourage other mama's that are in similar situations to do the same. If you haven't been sent any formula samples, you can sign up on Enfamil and Similac's website so you can receive them and then donate them to your local food pantry.
Re: Donate your formula samples!
avenue for people.
I would also like to put out there if you have an open bag of diapers that your LO outgrows, please consider donating them as well. Some babies don't get changed as often as they should to try to 'save a diaper.'
