Baby cranky when hubby gets home

My poor husband by the time he gets home the baby is cranky same time every night like clock work! I feel so bad for my husband he only gets to be with the "cranky" baby not the happy smiley baby I have all day. Anyone else have the same problem ?

  • Yes unfortunately I work too so we both get more cranky.

  • My LO is like that. I think it is a phase. Sorry that doesnt help much =[

  • I'm lucky my LO is always happy to see his daddy. Have you tried having him play with your LO and their favorite toy? Singing a favorite song to them? Just an idea but what about taking some pictures or a short video and send it to your hubby during the day so he can enjoy happy baby too!
  • I think it's a coincidence. DS gets fussy at 5pm everyday, whether H is home or not.
  • I have the same issue, my DH gets home from work at 630 and by then I have already given LO his bath and he is in pjs ready for bed by 7 and sometimes pretty cranky if he didn't get a good afternoon nap. If he's had a good nap then he plays with his dad a bit before bedtime. Weekends are really when they spend their quality time.

  • Same thing happening here. C'est la vie!

  • It's the "witching hours" so it's completely understandable.  My LO can be like that esp if she missed her afternoon nap and is overtired.
  • It's a normal time for babies to get cranky, but it can sometimes happen because of not-so-good napping.  Try working on getting your LO nap better during the day (yes I know, easier said than done!), and see if that helps!

Completely agree!!!  Naps are KEY!! Babies are notoriously cranky in the evenings.  I also feed my fuss pot a little more frequently in the evening and that seems to help alot. In addition to making sure he's not overtired from lack of napping in the day. It's hard...very hard.

  • My DD is the same she is the happiest baby all day except between 6:30-8 when she is cranky pants. I heard it is called "witching hour." At first I thought she was getting cranky when I got home at 6. It is a weird gap for my DD b/c she still has 1 more feeding before bedtime & she is exhausted at that time. I have taken her walks or giving her a bath during these times-I alternate each day. She then takes a power nap until I wake her for her last feeding. It has been working!! :)
  • I've been finding that adding in an extra feed, even if it's a short one, seems to help too!! MUCH less cranky in the evening.  Even though it seems like he's eating ALL evening long, it really does seem to help. Then he STTN after one more feed.

Butting in a little--but are you sure she needs that feeding?  My LO goes to bed for the night at 6 even though her last bottle is sometimes as early as 4, and she sleeps until 7:30.  I only mention this because if she's so cranky at that time it's probably because she wants to go to bed and might be ready to drop that feeding!  Ever tried just letting her?
