Email I wrote in response to my mother (FU to last week's post)

My Mother, after the multiple very cruel facebook messages she wrote to me last week basically calling me a horrible mother and saying all sorts of untrue things about me (like I'm on facebook 24/7 and neglect my child to be on facebook; I don't feed him solids - totally untrue!!!; I'm a horrible Mom for putting him in daycare even though we have gone through 3 nannies in 9 months; I never read to me and so he is going to be mute, etc.), sends me three emails in the past 2 days...all are addressed and written to my son - not to me!!! It is absurd. So I wrote back this letter:

Dear Grandma,

I cannot really understand your letter as I don't know how to read because my Mommy never reads to me. I'm learning how to speak "cat" since my only friend and the only who pays me any attention is Lucy. [Lucy is our cat.]

Also, I am starving because all they ever feed me is formula and I never eat any solid foods. I just have diarrhea all the time from all of the formula.

I saw my cousin on Facebook since Mommy is on there 24/7. And I agree--I am much cuter!

Daycare was awful. I already have measles, mumps, a gash, a rash and purple bumps!

P.S. - None of this is true, but you really hurt Mommy's feelings. My Daddy and I both think you owe her a big apology for saying such mean, hurtful and untrue things to her.

[Oh, and yes my Mother did say that my child was cuter than my brother's kid. What grandmother does that?]

UPDATE: She responded to me and sort of half-ass apologized and used the excuse that she was "medicated."

Yikes! I'm sorry that you are going through so much drama with your mama! Hopefully things will work themselves out before the Holidays. ((HUGS)) this is the last thing you need to be dealing with right now.

I'm really sorry about your toxic mother. I'm glad you told her how hurtful her actions are and she needs to take responsibility for them. I would limit contact with her until she can be civil.

I somehow missed your first post about this so I just went back and read it. I am so sorry your mother said those things, especially without taking the time to find out the truth of the situation. FWIW, I was (and still am to a degree) super picky about what I would feed DS and was judged by my parents and my ILs for it. But I know I was doing what I knew was best for DS. And now, two years later, everyone marvels about how he eats such a variety of healthy foods as a two and a half year old. I go on FB or TB when the kids are napping but to an outsider it may look like I am on too much. I never go on when they are awake and need my attention. Try not I let other people's judgements get you down. It is so easy to judge from the outside of a situation. I am glad you were able to respond to your mother without blowing up - I have to say I might have.

I probably wouldn't have gone that route, but your email definitely gave me a laugh.

I would block her on Facebook and tell her that the things she says hurt your feelings. Even if she doesn't mean them in hurtful ways (this is my MIL's famous thing), all your friends see her comments and it makes you look like a bad mother. I'd also tell her that if she had serious concerns for your child's well-being that she should address them directly with you in person like an adult instead of posting to a social media website. I would also just delete those emails she wrote your LO- that's just plain weird lol. It sounds like she's behaving immaturely and I would just try not to engage with that type of behavior.

It sucks she's acting like that. My MIL was always horrible with me, but surprisingly has been pretty tame since DD arrived. I think she caught on that being nasty to me meant not seeing her son (his choice, not mine) and she didn't want to not see her granddaughter.

your response made me laugh also. It's easy to tell you to take the high road & not stoop to her level but not so easy to put into practice. I am sure you are hurt & your reaction is completely understandable. You can't pick family but wouldn't it be nice if we could

Wait whaaaaat? I must have missed your original post about this issue but holy smokes! I think your email was too nice. I probably would have let my Mom have it. Your own Mom was saying those things? For real? What a bummer.
