Caffeine? How much is too much?

Who's drinking it and how much? Coffee makes me want to yak but I love iced tea...Trying to stay under 100mg per day. I could make decaf at home but buying it at cafe across the street at work.Anyone else??

  • I agree with pp.  Two cups of coffee fine.  Once you're out of the first trimester then caffeine isn't as much of a deal as it is at the beginning.

  • I drink one cup a day, but when I went in for my doctor's appointment this past week, she told me to switch to decaf!  That's a little crazy, right?  (I'm not high risk and have no health concerns!)

  • I either have one cup of coffee or one Dr. Pepper every day and if I am at my parents I will have a glass or 2 of tea. I just like water when I'm pregnant.

  • I crave iced tea but try not to have it every day.
  • I'll often have a cup of coffee and a soda in a day. Both should still be under 250 mg together--I drink dark roast which is less caffeine anyway, and a can of pop is like 50.

  • I usually drink a cup of coffee or a couple glasses of diet soda a day. 

    I recently read on the APA that new studies show that up to 3 cups of coffee (8oz) is fine.

  • I used to be a huge coffee drinker, now I have a little less than one cup.  I think it is because I wake up and take my prenatal with a lotsa water.  You will be fine with your iced tea!  Anything under 200mg is fine, and even if you go over a couple times I don't think it is a huge deal, just not ideal.

  • I had the same concern as you. I don't drink coffee at all, but love iced tea! I asked my doctor what she thought and she said there is far less caffeine in tea than in coffee. She said I could pretty much have tea all day, and not hit the limit. --- She said she wouldn't suggest that, because I drink sweet tea and probably don't need that amount of sugar. She said, "Have a glass or two a day and don't worry about it!"

  • I drink 1 cup of coffee every morning. I avoid caffeinated sodas & don't eat much chocolate.
  • When I was pregnant with DD, I swear the recommendation was up to 300 mg/day..... Still more than I would drink in a day.

    I drink a tea, chai, or decaf coffee most days. Now that it's getting cold I'll probably switch to hot chocolate. If I want a pop, I have one but that doesn't happen every day, maybe a few days a week.

  • I drink like 40oz of watered down ice tea a day, cuz that's about all I can stomach.

  • You're iced tea is probably less than 50 mg of caffeine. A hot steeped cup of tea averages 50 mg, but iced tea is prepared differently and becomes more watered down.a small cup of coffee averages 200 mg as an industry standard.
  • I love iced tea too & have been getting them but not as often as I used to!
  • I'll have either a can of pop or a cup of hot chocolate/tea about once a day. I'm thinking I'm probably getting around 100mg of caffeine a day, but I don't really keep track.

  • I have a soda or a cup of coffee each day. The caffeine helps me feel better in the morning. And I've been so exhausted that I need it to teach effectively. Honestly I don't count the mg of caffeine I drink. I just don't go overboard.
