Natural Inducing remedies

I am just asking this question to see who hastried any remedies.

I drank castor oil with my first born and it worked like a charm! This time around I'm choosing to go on my own.

Just wondering if any one has tried any remedies such a EPO or Red Rasberry Tea and how effective it is.

** Please, no bashing** We all know that our bodies will go when the time is right!!

Re: Natural Inducing remedies

  • 1. EPO and RRLT are not inducing. RRLT strengthens the uterus and EPO *may* help with effacement.
    2. Choosing to go on your own this time? Unless your overdue I wouldn't to force anything anything. Are you Overdue?

  • If you know your body will go when the time is right then what's the point in asking this? I'm not bashing (which btw, you can't stop people from commenting however they want) but just curious. Especially since you're "choosing to go on your own"...

More than likely the castor oil "worked" by coincidence, your LO was already ready to come on thier own. Also, castor oil is not recommended and can have some pretty bad after effects in case anyone is considering this.

I bounced on a yoga ball a lot, not because I was hoping to go into labor but because it helped my back feel better. I did have contractions sometimes when I did that but it sure didn't help, I ended up being induced which led to a cesarean.
  • FTM, so obviously I haven't tried any of them. But I've read about lots. Mainly: walking, sex, nipple stimulation, EPO, acupuncture/pressure, and black cohosh.

  • I am planning to go on my own meaning that I am going to let me body run its course.

I simply asked this question only because I am on bedrest and bored. I wanted to start a discussion on a topic that I didn't see on here.

If you are wanting to go on your own, why are you inquiring about inducing remedies? This makes no sense.

OP: Normally when someone says no bashing, it either means it is a very flame-worthy post or causes people to do just that. Just pointing that out; I have no input towards the actual question.
  • I haven't tried any, but I have been researching ways to prepare my body for labor. I have even started seeing a naturopathic dr.

I am currently taking red raspberry leaf and nettle tea. Helps tone your uterus.

I have been advised against EPO and told to use Borage oil, it will help with your cervix. Also I was told pineapple and and date fruits will help prepare your body.

Once I'm 36 weeks, she is giving me mother's cordial. And then acupuncture.

I also plan on staying active and using hip opening exercises.

Because I've had two c-sections, my OB won't do a medical induction. She suggested the naturopath and acupuncture to me.

  • Thank you! That is all I am doing. It is just interesting to see what other women do or try to induce labor.

I don't think there is a need for rude posts or replies!

    Funny story, btw!

  • I like to hear the old wives tales and read the funny ways that we as women try to induce labor. I think that ultimately we don't have a lot of say in the matter, but I'm with you....it's fun to read and talk about on these sleepless nights waiting on our little ones to come! So here's a fun website:
    https://wrylilt.hubpages.com/hub/Ways-to-induce-Labour-Naturally
  • I'm a FTM so I obviously don't know if anything helps but I think my mom said she drank Flax Seed Oil. She said it was disgusting and I don't think it helped her at at but that's what she tried!
  • If you start taking RRLT late in the game, it won't do you much good.  It doesn't induce labor but tones the uterus and is something that you should start in the second tri.

I took RRLT from 16 weeks on and EPO starting at 38 weeks.  I happened to go into labor at 38 weeks, 5 days.  While I think the EPO helped, I don't think it cause it, I think it was my time to go into labor.  But I did progress very quickly (water broke at 2AM, baby born naturally at 7:14AM) and I often wonder if the EPO played some part in helping to soften my cervix to allow that.

Yup. RRLT & EPO do not induce anything. They are simply preparation for the uterus & cervix. I did both with both pregnancies. DD came on her own at 39w1d.

DS I had a membrane sweep plus the above. He came with no further intervention at 41w2d.

I never heard of swallowing semen can bring on labor....I was told that semen helps soften your cervix and help prepares for labor...

This!  I have started drinking rrlt but thats just because my doctor said that its supposed to help with strengthening the uterus and helps your body prepare you for labor so *hopefully* you won't have much of a tear.  And EPO doesn't induce labor from what I have been told it just helps with the thinning of the cervix.  Good luck!!
  • A friend of mine got a pedicure on her due date and went into labor that day. Coincidence?? Probably. But if I am overdue I am getting a pedicure.... I'll be 40 weeks this Saturday :)
  • I started drinking Raspberry Tea at 36 weeks to help "tone my uterus."  My Dr. told me it was fine to drink but was skeptical of its effectiveness.  No harm no foul.  I am 38 weeks today and almost completely effaced, 1-2cm dilated and Baby is at a -2 station.  She suggested against taking evening primrose because it may reduce clotting times.  I'm not willing to take that chance, true or not.  Do what you and your doctor feel is best.  Good luck for a healthy natural delivery!
  • Raspberry leaf tea was not recommended by my doula until third trimester.

I have just read the craziest response ever.
  • Actually acupuncturist have said some nerves in the foot can make a woman go into labor. Soooooo.... There maybe some truth to that.
  • I have heard swallowing semen can bring on labour. Don't know how true it is though.

I have heard swallowing the father's sperm can reduce preeclampsia (by accustoming mother's body to his DNA), and that semen can soften the cervix. Both of these at least make some sense. How in the world would it possibly start labor? Use your brain.
